Our Statement on Racial Injustice
Culver Academies is deeply concerned about the consistent presence in our society of violence and discrimination against people of color. We recognize that sustained and systemic racism is a national and global crisis.
The recent deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd, to name a few, are horrific and reprehensible. We as Culver feel the extreme pain, frustration, and anger that many others are feeling in the world at this moment. It manifests itself in protests, demonstrations, and social upheaval. We all have to believe that the state of our world, as it is now, is not what it has to be.
We support the peaceful protests that are bringing long-overdue focus and urgency to these underlying issues. Like so many others, we support and seek unity, equality, and respect.
Culver’s mission to educate its students for leadership and responsible citizenship in society by developing and nurturing the whole individual - mind, spirit, and body - is rooted in the Cardinal Virtues of Wisdom, Courage, Moderation, and Justice. We must exercise these virtues to effect the change that we want to see in the world.
We stand with the Black members of our community and all people of color - including our students, alumni, faculty, staff, colleagues, and families. We will continue to make Culver an institution that trains leaders who globally strive for courage and justice through leading by example with compassion, sincerity, and an open mind.
