Basketball - Girls

Varsity

In 1972, the recently-established Culver Academy for Girls (later Culver Girls Academy) began interscholastic competition in basketball marking one of the first varsity sports at the Academy and launching the beginnings of a storied history for CGA Basketball.

By the early 1980s, CGA basketball was on the map led by stars like Anne (Quilhot) Buckley, class of `82, who co-captained the team to its first sectional victory, under coach Jerry Thomas.

Six sectional championships (82, 83, 87, 90, 97, 11) one parade All-American (Babcock ’90), one Miss Basketball (Babcock ’90), two Indiana All-Stars (Babcock ‘90, Cvitkovic ’13) and five 1000 point scorers, the history and legacy of CGA basketball is unrivaled in the lore of “Hoosier Hysteria”.

Setting the standard for all current and future players of CGA Basketball was the star of the hardwood: Patricia Babcock, career scoring leader at CGA, Miss Indiana Basketball in 1990 and inductee into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017. She ended her high-school career as the second-leading scorer in state history with 2,199 points.

Joining Babcock in the 1000 point club include such CGA greats as Tiffany Kyser (‘99) with 1,256 points, Vanessa Jackson (’04) with 1,619, Kylee Shipley (’11) at 1,215 and Andrijana Cvitkovich (’13) with 1,240 point which vaulted the 6 foot, 3 inch center to become CGA’s second Indiana All-Star.

Sectional titles, two Bi-County Championship, incredible seasons and outstanding players have shaped the legacy of CGA Basketball and help current players understand “We are a part of something bigger than ourselves”.
