Baseball
Overview
To support the development of our student-athletes CMA Baseball relies on a philosophy that fully embraces Culver’s mission. Our core belief is that the process and approach we take to the game is more important than the results. We live this philosophy by frequently discussing and employing a focused and purposeful mental approach, “play one pitch at a time.” As coaches we use the program’s process-oriented philosophy to assess our success. Our practices are designed around evaluating our effort and focus, and after a game we use the philosophy as groundwork to discuss our performance. Do not get us wrong; we are competitive, and we have high expectations. There is a bigger picture though, and we believe that the lessons learned in the baseball program are transferable lessons. We believe in the Culver mission and are proud to serve our student athletes.
Our program can challenge players of all levels and abilities. In fact, we believe that the number of former players continuing to play baseball in college speaks to our ability to prepare young men to compete at the next level. From Division III schools like the University of Chicago, Wabash College, and Dennison University, to Division I programs like Duke University and Columbia University, a number of former players have found success after Culver, both on the field and in the classroom. We are honored and pleased to serve the needs of these high-caliber athletes. Our official season goes from mid-March through the end of May. We play a schedule of approximately 25 games, including two weekend tournaments. Our season culminates with the Indiana High School Athletic Association state baseball tournament in late May. While we enjoy supporting baseball players involved in fall and winter sports, for players not in a fall and/or winter sport, we offer a fall strength-training program and a winter strength training and throwing program.
