Kat Hone, Senior, Court
At the December North American Cup in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kat earned her career best Division 2 finish taking the silver medal in the women’s sabre. She was defeated in the gold medal bout 15-13 by a four-year varsity fencer from Division 1 Temple University, who is currently training with hopes to represent Nicaragua in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Kat’s previous best Division 2 result was a top-32 finish at the Summer Nationals this past July in St. Louis, Missouri. As a two-time squad captain, her ability to perform and her dedication to the sport is invaluable to the Culver Fencing program. “Kat dependably helps run practices, footwork, and helps set up in preparation for tournaments we host. Her national circuit experience—both as a participant and referee—and passion for the sport allows her to guide those new to our program,” said head coach Matt Cameron.
Nick Stapleton, First Classmen, Band
The CMA Prep Hockey team is currently 14-8 on their season, having recently claimed wins over Dexter Southfield School and Lawrence Academy while on East Coast trips during winter break. Currently, a goal differential of plus 17 is the difference in those wins and losses. Responsible for 14 of those goals and assisting seven others is team co-captain and points-leader Nick Stapleton. As the team’s go-to centerman, Nick effectively uses his skating speed and hockey IQ to make impactful plays on all areas of the ice. According to head coach Steve Palmer, “Nick is extremely reliable. He never takes a game off and in fact, he never takes a shift off. He is a great example for his teammates, and the team has taken some strides forward in their game as a group in part because of Nick’s leadership.”
