CMA Soccer Defeats SB Washington 4-2, Advances to IHSAA Sectional Finals

On October 3rd, CMA Soccer defeated South Bend Washington High School in the IHSAA Sectional Semi-Final round, hosted by Mishawaka Marian High School.

Joel Thompkins '20 (Valparaiso, IN) and Ben Brummell '20 (South Bend, IN) both had impressive evenings. Thompkins managed 3 goals, the first, second, and fourth of the game (pictured above), while Brummell assisted Thompkins in each of his three goals while also scoring one himself on a free kick. Culver led Washington 2-0 at half, but two goals by Washington in the first five minutes of the second half briefly changed the game's momentum. "Having scouted their game on Monday," said Head Coach Kevin Green, "we knew we would be challenged by their forward and midfield line. A tweak to the line up and formation allowed us to have pressure most of the first half, but not without a scare or two."

The 4-2 victory earned the squad the opportunity to compete in the Sectional Championship round, which will take place on October 6th at 7:00pm at Marian against South Bend St. Joseph High School. Admission to the event is $6.
