CMA Lacrosse falls to #4 McDonogh

Last night, CMA Prep Lacrosse fell to #4 McDonogh School 12-11 on a gloomy rain soaked Monday evening.

The game was tied at three at the end of the first-quarter and McDonogh managed to carry a 6-5 lead into the half. CMA goaltender Mike Gianforcaro '20 (Wilmington, DE) recorded seven first half saves.

Culver trailed McDonogh 8-6 going into the fourth quarter, during which McDonogh opened with three unanswered goals. With eight minutes left to play, junior attackmen Owen Hiltz (Peterborough, ON) put an end to the run with a low-to-high left-handed goal in transition, cutting the deficit to four. Shortly thereafter, with 7:21 showing on the clock, Hiltz managed another unassisted goal in settled offense, bringing the Eagles to within three.

Senior captain and first-line midfielder Sammy English (Burlington, ON) followed the two-goal effort by Hiltz with a two-goal effort of his own, first with a hard overhand bounce shot early in a possession and then again as he shook his defensemen and took advantage of a late slide.

McDonogh was able to counter the four goal run however, as face-off specialist Gable Braun won the ball forward and got to the net to score, extending McDonogh's lead to two and ultimately supplying the game winner.

Culver continued to battle, and junior attackmen Cameron Chauvette (Shaker Heights, OH) managed to find English once more on a give-and-go opportunity to bring the Eagles back to within one with 2:59 remaining.

Sloppy play plagued both teams in the remaining moments, and Culver was awarded a man-up opportunity for a McDonogh off-sides violation with about one-minute left in regulation. They were unable to capitalize however, and McDonogh ran out the clock to escape with the one goal victory.

The loss is the first of CMA's season, moving them to 4-1. They continue to hang on to the #2 spot in the Under Armour National Top 25.

They are in action tomorrow at 1:00pm against #12 Haverford, which can be stream via Lax Sports Network.
