How We Support Students

At Culver, we recognize that all students can sometimes need support. The Learning Coaches, Educational Specialists, and Digital Learning Coach in the Department of Learning Support are here to help. Through 1:1 coaching appointments, supervised study halls, and digital learning sessions, the Learning Support team is committed to supporting all learners to reach their full academic potential.

Academic Support Resources

Learning Coaching

When/Where	How to Access
8:30–4:00, Learning Lounge, 1st Floor of the Huffington Library	Drop in, email LearningSupport@culver.org, or use the Learning Coach button on Veracross
Learning coaches meet one on one with students to help with organization, time management, and general academic skill support. Learning coaching is a good place to start for a student who isn’t sure what support is most appropriate for them, as coaches can connect students to all other supports.

Digital Learning Coaching

When/Where	How to Access
8:30–4:00, Learning Lounge, 1st Floor of the Huffington Library	Drop in, email DigitalCoach@culver.org, or use the Learning Coach button on Veracross
The Digital Learning Coach supports students in effectively using their computers for academics, including digital hygiene, instruction in common programs like Word and Excel, and specialized features such as Read Aloud. The Digital Learning Coach also offers supervised online SAT preparation through Khan Academy, supervised online language learning through Lingco, and online math learning through ALEKS and other platforms.

Office Hours

When/Where	How to Access
9:50–10:45, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, in classrooms	Drop in, no appointment needed
Teachers are available four days a week for students to ask questions, review work, or engage in conversation about course material. Students are encouraged to attend office hours as a first point of contact for an academic challenge in a course.

Math Help Center

When/Where	How to Access
The first 45 minutes of every block, Dicke 208, 2nd Floor of Roberts/Dicke	Drop in, no appointment needed
A math teacher is available every block to help students with math questions, including students who need additional instruction on an aspect of their math course.

Writing Center

When/Where	How to Access
By appointment; meetings may be in the Huffington Library or online	Writing Center link on Veracross
Writing Center coaches help students with a wide variety of writing applications, including but not limited to writing assignments for classes, college essays, or personal or creative writing at any stage in the writing process.

Tutorials

When/Where	How to Access
During a study block, added to the student’s schedule, location assigned	Teacher referral
Tutorials with either a student’s teacher or another teacher of that subject are sometimes assigned when a student needs more subject-specific help than office hours can provide. These are typically scheduled for one meeting per week.

Academic Study Hall

When/Where	How to Access
During a study block, added to the student’s schedule; Learning Lounge, 1st Floor of the Huffington Library	Learning Coach referral, automatic enrollment for new 9th and 10th grade students during Term 1.
Study Halls are supervised by our Learning Coaches and provide a structured space for students to complete academic work during the class day. New 9th and 10th grade students will automatically be enrolled in a study hall for Term 1 to support the development of good study habits.

Homework Café

When/Where	How to Access
7:30–9:25 during CQ, 2nd Floor of the Huffington Library	Learning Coach referral
Homework Café provides a quiet and supervised environment for students who benefit from a more structured learning space during CQ. Students are generally assigned to Homework Café for at least one reporting period.

Support for students with diagnosed learning differences or disabilities

Culver offers limited academic accommodations to students with documented learning differences, disabilities, or other qualifying conditions.

Students and families seeking accommodations will with work with an Educational Specialist to determine if accommodations through a Learning Support Plan are appropriate. Email LearningSupport@culver.org or refer to the Learning Support section of the Student/Parent Handbook to learn more.

Educational Specialists can submit documentation to standardized testing agencies for qualifying students seeking accommodations, though final approval rests solely with the testing agency.
