International Student Achievement (DISA)

The overall goal of the English program is to prepare the students to be able to effectively communicate for classroom, leadership, and extracurricular purposes.

The program focuses on building and solidifying reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, as well as improving the students’ vocabulary and accuracy of language use. The three courses in the English program prepare students not only to handle the language requirements in their courses, but also to approach a variety of task types successfully, including text and literary analyses, research and document-based writing, structuring of academic paragraphs and essays, and formal oral presentations. In addition, the program helps students develop effective study habits and understand the expectations in the Culver classroom. The overall aim of the program is to produce independent learners who will achieve at the highest levels. English placement determines enrollment in one of the three courses.
