Second rotation senior prefect Ale Gutierrez urged Culver Girls Academy students to remember to invest in themselves.

“Every decision you make, every hour you dedicate to studying, practicing a sport, or building relationships, determines the person you will become,” the senior from Houston, Texas, said during the transition ceremony on Wednesday. “The time and effort you invest in yourself now will pay off exponentially in ways you might not even realize.”

Gutierrez told the girls that during her time at CGA she’s faced a lot of challenges.

“One of the most valuable lessons I've learned that I want to share with you is the importance of finding out who you are. What do you want? Most importantly, what is your strategy to accomplish your objectives? Do you have a plan?” she asked.

She told the girls that investing their time in the fast pace of academics, projects, friendships and all activities that make up the Culver experience is not easy. But she told the girls the most significant investment they will ever make is in themselves.

“Every decision you make, every hour you dedicate to studying, practicing a sport, or building relationships, determines the person you will become. The time and effort you invest in yourself now will pay off exponentially in ways you might not even realize,” Gutierrez said.

She said a student might feel overwhelmed at first in a challenging class, but the determination to do well will strengthen their skills and open doors later. By investing in friendships, they will gain meaningful connections that can last a lifetime and could lead to many adventures.

“When you pursue something you are passionate about, you invest in a future with meaning and personal satisfaction that will last a lifetime, filling your future with hope and optimism,” she said.

Gutierrez said investing in yourself is not just about hard work, but also about nurturing a positive mindset that can endure inevitable downcycles.

“A positive mindset shapes how you tackle obstacles and learn from them,
she said. “It is critical to understand that challenges and complications are opportunities for personal growth.”

Gutierrez told the girls that investing in themselves means prioritizing their time, their activities, their mindset and their relationships.

“Investing in yourself means always keeping focus on your goals. Investing in yourself is about understanding that you are worth the blood, sweat and tears,” she said. “For in the final analysis, if you believe you can make a difference, if you want to thrive and inspire others, and if you want to cash in your hard work and sacrifices, you must recognize and be convinced that you are your greatest asset.”
