He taught English as a second language in Colegio Cordillera for five years in Santiago, Chile. He also lived in Wellington, New Zealand for three years and traveled extensively throughout Asia, Europe and South America. Aaron returns to the U.S.A. to teach Spanish and coach lacrosse at Culver Academies. Aaron's education is a global one. He learns from the cultures and places he immerses himself in. In addition to overseeing all alumni affairs, his office serves as headquarters for The Culver Legion and The Culver Summer Schools Alumni Association. He originally joined the Culver faculty as an intern in the History Department after earning his B.A. in U.S. History from Tulane University in 1986. She returned to Culver after spending six years working as an engineer at HeartWare, a medical device company developing products for the treatment of advanced heart failure. Alex earned his Bachelors degree in history with a minor in psychology from the College of Wooster where he also played lacrosse. Anastasia Médard Beeson '94 Counselor CGA Student Life Anastasia.Beeson@culver.org 574-842-8305 Anastasia Beeson joined the Culver Academies Student Life department in 2015 as the Benson counselor. Originally from Petion-Ville, Haiti, she is a 1994 graduate of CGA. She went on to receive her Bachelor's degree from Yale University (1999), as well as her Master's degree in Education from the University of St. Thomas (2012). Prior to working at CGA, Anastasia served as a Americorps College Counselor for the 21st Century Scholars program (Lafayette, IN), a high school teacher and instructional coach at Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory School of Houston and a curriculum consultant at St. Theresa Catholic School (Sugar Land, TX). He serves as a chemistry instructor for both introductory chemistry and AP chemistry. Basner also serves as an assistant wrestling coach in the winter. After graduating with a B.S in chemistry with a concentration in chemical biology in Dec. 2008, he attended graduate school at Syracuse University to work on his PhD in chemistry. While at Syracuse, he tried to find ways to make solar panels absorb more sunlight. He also served as an adjunct chemistry professor during time in Syracuse. Andrew Strati Senior Instructor Humanities Andrew.Strati@culver.org 574-842-8023 Andrew Strati joined the Culver Academies Humanities Department in the fall of 2005, having served as a high school teacher and coach since 1990. He earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education at Manchester College with an emphasis in American History and American Government. Prior to Culver, Mr. Strati spent 13 years at South Bend Saint Joseph High School and two years at Goshen High School where he taught AP American History and coached football. Mr. Strati currently serves as an instructor of American Studies and International Relations. Additionally, he is co-advisor of the Culver Military Honor Council. In addition to his teaching duties, Mr. Strati is the offensive coordinator for the varsity football team and is an assistant coach for the freshman boys' basketball team. Andy Plonski Military Leadership Mentor Artillery CMA Military Activities Andy.Plonski@culver.org 574-842-7454 Andy Plonski came to Culver Military Academy in August 2005 with a two year stint at the University of Notre Dame in between. He serves as the Military Leadership Mentor in the Artillery Battalion. He is located in Main barracks working on his primary duties but can be found out on the parade field teaching the cadets to drive the fleet of military trucks and to fire the howitzer battery. He also has worked as the Night Officer in Charge and worked with Infantry Battalion for six years. He also serves as the sponsor for 4 Gun Drill and coaches football for CMA. Andy joined the United States Marine Corps in June of 2000. His primary MOS was to be a combat engineer and took on secondary duties in admin and supply. In January 2003 he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with Engineer Company B 6th ESB. He also was an elementary school principal for the past fourteen years in southern Ohio. Prior to serving at Principal, Andy taught 4th grade and coached high school basketball. Andy graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. In November she became the Scanner/Clerk for the same department. She is the friendly face you see upon entering the basement of the Humanities building. She specializes in the scanning and retrieval of student files through the software known as Docuware. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Business from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 1992. She spent her sophomore year of undergraduate study at the University of Caen in Lower Normandie, France. In 1994, she earned her Master's degree in French Culture from The Ohio State University. After completing her doctoral exams there in French Cultural Studies, Ms. Barton moved to Rennes, France where she taught at a university, a political science institute, and an international business grande ecole for 3 years. In addition to teaching French, Ms. Barton has also worked to promote equity and inclusion during her career. Next year, She will be taking over the Multicultural Awareness Retreat slated for September. She is a 1998 graduate of Culver Girls Academy. After Culver Ms. Fulton earned a bachelor's degree in Biology from Indiana State University then continued to earn a Swedish Studies certificate from Vaxjo University. Ms. Fulton also earned a master's degree in Student Affairs Administration from Indiana State University. Prior to arriving at Culver Academies she worked as the Assistant Director of Student Activities at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Annette Hildebrandt Senior Instructor Mathematics Annette.Hildebrandt@culver.org 574-842-8097 Annette Hildebrandt joined Culver Academies in the fall of 2016. With over 30 years of teaching experience within the public and private sector, Annette has won many teaching awards including Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year, the Milken National Eduacator Award, the Sontag Award in Urban Education and the Milken Fellow Award for project based learning. Annette has taught virtually every mathematics course during her career rangind from Pre-Algebra through AP calculus. Annette has been active in the past with alternative assessments in the mathematics classroom and has been a presenter at many local and state conferences in Iowa. Throughout her years of teaching she has developed many different projects that she has implemented within her classroom, one of which was featured on the Milken Family Website of Unsung Heroes. Antonio Giraldi '75 Chief International Officer International tony.giraldi@culver.org 574-842-8332 Antonio Giraldi joined the Culver Academies in 2001 as Chief International Officer. Tony graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1975 (Troop B) and earned his BA from Baylor University. He then earned his master's degree in Foreign Service from Georgetown University. The International Advancement group supports all areas of the Academies and Summer Camps. Prior to coming to Culver, Tony worked as an international investment banker specializing in Latin America and Asia. Tony was born in Japan and raised in Latin America. April Bain Senior Instructor Mathematics April.Bain@culver.org 574-842-8089 April Bain is joining the Mathematics department after serving seven years with the Los Angeles Unified School District. As an instructional coach, curriculum developer, and classroom teacher her mission was to bring engaging, rigorous, and accessible mathematics instruction to all students. She also worked as an Instructional Strategy Researcher and Conference Presenter for CPM Educational Program, a grader for the AP Statistics exams, and volunteered with educational reform and public policy initiatives. Additionally, April co-founded and served on the Executive Board of Minds Matter of Los Angeles, a non-profit focused on transforming the lives of accomplished high school students from low-income families by preparing them for success in college and beyond. Aris Brimanis Athletics Liaison and Head U16 Hockey Coach Sports Administration Aris.Brimanis@culver.org 574-842-8057 Aris Brimanis returned to the Culver community in 2016, after graduating in 1990. Born in Cleveland, OH, Aris attended CMA, pursued hockey at Bowling Green State University, and continued on to be a professional hockey player for 19 years. After retiring from hockey in 2012, Aris continued his love for the sport by coaching in both America and Europe. Brimanis worked for the U.S. Embassy Sports Diplomacy Program as a Sports Envoy and was a lead instructor at Hockey Camp Sweden from 2012-2015. Aris has completed the NHL Alumni Coaching Beyond the Boards program. attended NHLCA Coaches Clinics, and through his own business, gave personal hockey lessons at both the amateur and professional level. Drafted in 1991 by the Philadelphia Flyers, Brimanis played 113 NHL games and more than 1,100 professional games over 19 consecutive seasons in the NHL, AHL, IHL, Switzerland's National A League, and Germany's DEL. She works closely and primarily in support of the Director of the Culver Fund. She is responsible for evaluating the need for process improvements, designing and implementing them, as well as creating and executing Culver Fund financial reports. Ashley Paulson Instructor Wellness Education Ashley.Paulson@culver.org 574-842-8308 Ashley Paulson joined the Wellness Department in August 2014. She will serve as a 10th grade instructor as well as the strength and conditioning coach and as the CGA Ice Hockey assistant coach. A 2006 graduate of Culver Academies, Paulson went on to play Division 1 Ice Hockey at the University of North Dakota where she earned her B.S. in Exercise Science and Coaching. From there, she came back to Culver for her internship where she was in the Admissions Office and the Wellness Department. She then returned to UND for her graduate work as well as working with the Women's Ice Hockey program as an assistant strength and conditioning coach. She earned her Master's in Kinesiology in August of 2014. A native of Onalaska, WI, Ashley will be residing in Culver, IN where she enjoys being outdoors and playing as many sports as possible. Ashley Butler SS'00 Senior Instructor Modern and Classical Language Ashley.Butler@culver.org 574-842-8006 Ashley Butler joined the Department of Modern and Classical Languages in 2016. She earned a bachelor's degree in Latin from DePauw University in 2005 and a master's degree in Classical Studies from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland in 2012. Her master's thesis examined door and threshold imagery in the Roman comedies of Plautus and Terence and Latin Elegiac poetry. Mrs. Butler currently teaches Latin I and Latin 2 at Culver Academies. Prior to arriving at Culver, she taught at St. Richard's Episcopal School in Indianapolis, where she was the Latin and Spanish teacher. After leaving Dublin with her masters degree, she taught Latin at Canterbury School in Greensboro, North Carolina. Benjamin Nowalk W'02, '07 Coordinator Culver Clubs International Alumni Office Ben.Nowalk@culver.org 574-842-7859 Benjamin (Ben) Nowalk joined the Advancement team in October of 2015 as the department's Special Events Coordinator. After receiving his B.A. in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Purdue University '12, Ben spent 3.5 years as an Operations Manager for Marcus Hotels and Resorts. During his time with Marcus, Ben worked through an extensive Manager in Training program at the Grand Geneva Resort and Spa and most recently held the position of Director of Front Office Operations at the 729 room Hilton Milwaukee City Center. His passion for hospitality and the Culver experience has driven his recent return to Culver. In his role, Ben will be working extensively with the Director of Alumni Relations as well as Parents Coordinator to assist in the coordination and execution of the growing list of large scale events hosted on campus. He earned a bachelor's degree in history at Emory University and then earned his teaching certificate from the Indiana University School of Education. In 2002, he completed a master of arts in liberal studies in history and theology from Valparaiso University. While at Culver, Mr. Trevathan has taught courses in both world and American history as well as senior electives in World Religions, Philosophy, and Racism in American Society. Since 2003, he has devoted his efforts to the 9th-grade Humanities course, Western Perspectives from Greece to the Renaissance. In 2008 he was appointed to serve as coordinator for the 9th-grade course. Mr. Trevathan currently serves as chair of the teacher representatives committee of the Indiana Association of Independent Schools. He is an assistant coach with Culver's state-champion speech team. Branden is originally from Northern Indiana and is a proud graduate of Culver Military Academy. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse in 2012. After graduating college, he began working in Wisconsin for an insurance company as an adjuster. While living in Wisconsin he also volunteered at Oshkosh West High School as an assistant wrestling coach. He is very passionate about wrestling and enjoys helping students realize their full potential on and off the mat. A native Californian, he earned a bachelor's degree in Physical Education from California State University Chico in 1986 and his teaching credentials from San Diego State University in 1987. He earned a M.ED in Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2005. Prior to arriving at Culver Academies, he was a counselor and taught physical education and health at five different international schools in Japan, China, the Philippines and Thailand for sixteen years. Between his overseas work, Brian taught and coached football and baseball at Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa, Florida. Prior to his arrival as counselor of Company C, he was a member of the Military Activities Department. He retired from the United States Army on June 1, 2007 after 22 years of service. SGM Morales is a graduate of the Primary Leadership Development Course (Honor Graduate), the Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course (Commandant's List), the Master Fitness Course, the Drill Sergeants Course (Distinguished Honor Graduate), and the Sergeants Major Academy (54). Prior to coming to Culver, she lived in Indonesia and was a teacher trainer and taught English and linguistics at the university level for over 15 years. She earned a bachelor's degree in German from Middlebury College in 1986 and a master's degree in TESOL from the School for International Training in 1988. Her areas of study and teaching interest include ESOL, English for Academic Purposes, and German. She currently teaches ESOL/English 1 and beginning German. She is a Master Instructor and holds the Bays Chair of Fine Arts. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974 from Indiana University. She worked towards a Masters in Science from Indiana University in 1982 and 1983. She is also a Culver graduate of 1970. Her areas of teaching include Dance Workshop levels, Dance for Athletes, Dance History, and Body Studies. She is the coordinator for the dance program and the chair of the Fine Arts department. Prior to arriving at Culver, Mrs. Duke taught dance and drama at the Bishop's Schools in LaJolla, California. Mrs. Duke spent three years in Columbus, Ohio from 1987-1990, where she taught at Otterbein College and free lanced in the city. Mrs. Duke started the performing group, Dancevision, in 1977. While at Carolina, Cooper also worked in the Academic Support Program for Student Athletes and the UNC Global Development office. A lifelong athlete, Cooper began a collegiate soccer career but saw it abruptly ended by injuries. Dan concentrated in Exercise Science and Health Education while at Miami of Ohio. He was accepted into the program as a graduate assistant after completion of a bachelor of arts degree from John Carroll University in Cleveland Ohio. He completed his masters of science degree in Athletic Training from California University of Pennsylvania in December of 2005. Dan was initially hired as an Athletic Trainer and Wellness instructor. He won the Dean Mars award in 1989 and the Greg Crossfield award in 2008. Dan proposed and developed Anatomy & Physiology as a course in 1991, and was inducted as a honorary member of Sigma Cum Laude in 2000. During his tenure at Culver Academy, he has served many roles. She earned a bachelor's degree in history from the University of California. Upon completion of her undergraduate studies, Darryl transferred her classroom learning into experiential application during a solo journey around the world the following year. Darryl immersed herself within the architecture of ancient history and the personal stories and experiences of many who had lived history; she heard countless stories about family struggles and the ultimate courage of individuals who survived the Cultural Revolution to rebuild their nation anew, hiked the Inca trail to Machu Picchu, watched the sunset on top of an ancient ruin at Tikal, explored Angkor Wat, My Son and the memorials of the Killing Fields, once again, hearing stories of fortitude and renewal in the face of history's ongoing struggle with reconciliation of personal, national and global identities. She currently serves as a Quartermaster for Pfost-Jones Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1728 in Winamac. She is a former member of the Veterans Advisory Committee for the Second Congressional District. Mr. Fox returned to Culver, Indiana in 2013, following a 30 year career in the United States Government which culminated with his service as the General Counsel and Acting Director of the United States Office of Government Ethics in Washington, DC, the senior ethics official in the Executive Branch. Mr. Fox's agency was responsible for reviewing financial disclosure reports of Presidential candidates and certifying Presidential nominees including potential cabinet secretaries for potential conflicts of interest. In addition, he led the agency's oversight, policy direction, and training for ethics programs in more than 135 Executive Branch agencies serving 4 million civilian employees and members of the military to prevent and resolve conflicts of interest. His most recent job experiences have been at the Plymouth Water Department as an Operator / Service Person. Prior to that, he worked for 13 years at the Plymouth High School as a Maintenance / Custodial Supervisor. Don also has a part time Farrier business for the past 25 years. Don's wife, Mary is an elementary school teacher at the Argos Schools and they have two daughters, Elizabeth and Kristina. They reside on a farm near Plymouth where they raise hay and horses. She started at Culver Academy for Girls that fall and graduated in 1974. Her 5 siblings also graduated from both CMA and CGA. She has spent the past 15 years in foreign language education, and she brings a Culver family heritage that stretches back to 1946. After graduating from Florida International University in 1978 with a BS in International Hotel Management, she worked for several luxury hotels in Cancun, Mexico City, Wilmington, Delaware, and Philadelphia. During that time she volunteered extensively and served on the board of the Junior League of Wilmington, DE. She continued to teach and earned her Master's of Education in Multilingual/Multicultural Studies in 2010 from George Mason University in VA. He oversees the operation of the Upper Schools, Woodcraft Camp, and Junior Woodcraft Camp, including 1,400 campers, and 450 staff members. Doug graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1990, where he was a member of Battery A. He and his wife, Cheryl Wilkins Bird (CGA '90), have three children, Jacob (15), Brighton (12), and Parker (7), all of whom are attending Culver programs. He is coming to Culver after serving as the principal of Center Grove High School in Greenwood, IN. Prior to his four years at Center Grove, Bird served as the assistant principal of operations (2008-2013) and student services (2007-2008) at Carmel High School. He became the Co-Director of Horsemanship in 1995 and then Director of Horsemanship in 1999. Ed is currently the Director of Horsemanship Operations and is a consultant in the renovation of the horsemanship facilities. Ed graduated from the New Mexico Military Institute and earned an Associate of Arts from NMMI in 1973 and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas P.B. in 1990. Prior to arriving at the Culver Academies, Ed worked as a developer and builder in Midland, TX, owned and operated a cable business and worked the family ranching business in West Texas. He played varsity polo at NMMI and continued with the sport as a professional polo player from 1976-1991 winning numerous tournaments and winning the regional USPA umpire of the year award in 1991. Edward Kelley Senior Instructor Humanities Edward.Kelley@culver.org 574-842-8389 Ed Kelley became a member of the Culver Academies' History Department in the fall of 1996. He earned a bachelor's degree in history at John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio, focusing on European and Asian histories. A minor in English also helped guide him toward the humanities curriculum. He also earned a master's degree in history from John Carroll. His central area of study was U.S.-Soviet relations while minor areas focused on U.S. foreign policy with Western Europe and Japan. Prior to her arrival at Culver, Mrs. Uebler spent six years at NorthWood High School in Nappanee, Indiana where she taught English and coached the Spell Bowl and English Teams. At Culver, Mrs. Uebler currently teaches American Studies with AP Language and Composition, a junior-level Humanities course. She has also taught Expository Writing, a senior elective. Mrs. Uebler serves on the Humanities Department Leadership Team as the Level 12 coordinator. In addition to her Humanities Department responsibilities, Mrs. Uebler directs the Culver Writing Center, which includes support and development of the Writing Center Tutor Program. Her responsibilities include teaching the Body Studies courses, modern dance and ballet to the Dance for Athletes and Dance Workshop classes, choreographing for Dancevision's fall and spring shows, as well as fulfilling her intern responsibilities. She has taught ballet and modern dance to children ages five to nineteen in a studio setting. An alumnus of Company A, he attended Culver's Woodcraft Camp (WC '92), the summer Naval School, and was a Counselor in the Woodcraft and Specialty Camp programs for several summers. A graduate of the George Washington University (B.A., cum laude), Purdue University (M.S.Ed.), and UCLA (Graduate Certificate). Francois comes to us from Park Tudor School in Indianapolis, IN, where he served as an Associate Director of College Counseling and Academic Advisor. She earned a bachelor's degree in Art and English Composition from Beloit College in 1982 and a master's degree in Education from the University of the Virgin Islands in 1991. She has taught Spanish Levels 1 through AP and is interested in Spanish art, literature and folklore. She has published poetry and has exhibited drawing and painting. Ms. DiLorenzo currently teaches Spanish 2, 3 and 4. Prior to arriving at Culver Academies, she served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Honduras and then taught Spanish at St. Croix Country Day School. He earned a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from Indiana University and a master's degree in Secondary Education from Butler University. His areas of study and teaching interests include American history, American literature, American government, psychology, sociology, and American military history. He currently instructs American Studies at the junior level. Prior to arriving at the Culver Academies, Mr. Christlieb spent 20 years as a public school instructor in Indiana. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Christlieb also directs the CGA Varsity Basketball Program. Coach Christlieb brings over 25 years of coaching experience to the CGA Basketball Program. One of his coaching career highlights includes being selected as one of eight coaches from the United States to assist with the development of the Scottish National Basketball program in 1992. Gary Hinton Senior Instructor Wellness Education Gary.Hinton@culver.org 574-842-8214 Gary Hinton earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in Secondary Education from Indiana University. His teaching career began in 1980. Prior to his tenure at Culver he had taught within the Diocese of Gary, Boys Clubs of Northwest Indiana and at Washington Township High School (Valparaiso, IN). In August of 1987, Gary was hired as a Counselor by Dean Alexander Nagy. He served in that capacity for 13 years working with the fine young men of Troop A, Troop B, Company C and Company B. In addition to his counseling duties Gary taught U.S. History, Leadership and Wellness classes. In 1998 he became a full time member of the Wellness Department, and currently holds the rank of Senior Instructor. Gary has been Culver Military Academy's Head Varsity Baseball Coach since 1988. He is an active member of the American Baseball Coaches Association, the National High School Baseball Coaches Association and the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association. He received his Bachelor's of Arts degree from the University of Delaware. After graduation, Geoff served as an Intelligence Officer in the United States Marine Corps. He served in many staff and leadership positions in the United States and overseas, and continues to serve in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Geoff enjoys spending time with his family, running, bike riding, skiing, hiking and cross training. Guy Weaser Senior Instructor Mathematics Guy.Weaser@culver.org 574-842-8330 Guy Weaser joined the Culver Mathematics Department in the fall of 1982. He is the head rowing coach. He learned about Culver while he was coaching the club rowing program at The University of Iowa, and was attracted to the opportunity to teach and coach rowing at the secondary level. He earned a bachelors degree in mathematics at UCLA, where he developed skills in mathematics, statistics, computer programming, rowing, and an interest in geography, which provided an application for many of those skills. He earned a masters degree in geography from The University of Iowa with an emphasis in urban population density modeling. He spent one year teaching geometry through calculus and computer programming at Scott City High School (Scott City, KS) before being appointed to the faculty at Culver. A graduate of Upper School in 1986, she spent six summers working at Woodcraft Camp prior to being named the Interim Director of Woodcraft in 2013. She earned a bachelor's degree in Economics from DePauw University in 1992 and a Juris Doctor from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1995. After passing the bar in both Indiana and Illinois, Heike practiced law before shifting her career to higher education administration. Holly came to Culver from the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra where she served as the Vice President of Development from 2013-2016. As a member of the senior management team, she was responsible for the ISO's overall fundraising initiatives, which included campaigns to increase annual fund giving, major gifts, corporate and foundation sponsorships, planned giving, and special events revenue. From 2010-2013, Holly served as the Indiana University Foundation's Director of Women's Philanthropy. She managed all aspects of the program, including the establishment of the Women's Philanthropy Council (WPC) in partnership with IU first lady, Laurie Burns McRobbie. After graduating from CGA in 2002, Jai went on to earn a B.A. in English with a minor in Creative Writing from Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans, LA where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the student literary and arts journal, New Voices, for three years. She worked as a tour guide for Louisiana State Museums and was a paraprofessional English and Writing tutor at Delgado Community College in New Orleans, LA for several years before returning home to Youngstown, OH where she helped care for an ailing parent and served as a domestic coordinator for her family for three years. Jaime graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education. She comes to us from Philadelphia where she has taught at Quaker and Catholic Schools as well as the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Fleisher Art Memorial. While in Philadelphia, Jaime has worked in several art studios, including a bronze foundry where she assisted in repairing public works of art. He earned a bachelor's degree in English from Bethany College with an emphasis in British literature. Mr. Schmiedlin spent a year abroad studying in Oxford, England. In 1997, he finished his graduate studies at Kent State University, and earned a master of arts in teaching. Since coming to Culver, Mr. Schmiedlin has taught at the freshman, sophomore, and junior levels. He served as the 9th grade program coordinator from 2001-2008, and relinquished the post to move to the American Studies program at the junior level. In addition to teaching American Studies, he teaches the AP Language and Composition class. He is the head coach of the Culver Academies U16 AAA hockey team. I also attended Ancilla Collage where I have an associate degree in business Administration. I was married to a Naval Personnel for over 22 years and I have two wonderful adult children, Todd who is a welder and Cassandra who is a junior at Indiana State University. I have lived in Charleston SC, Great Lakes IL, Lemoore CA, Fargo ND, and Virginia Beach VA. I have been a military spouse who was in charge of homecoming for the ships; I have been a brownie troop leader and a Cub Scout leader. I have worked on many of the US Naval Bases volunteering to help with the cause of navel relief to personnel whose wives or husbands needing help while their loved one is away. Jeff Henderson Senior Counselor CMA Student Life Jeff.Henderson@culver.org 574-842-8378 Jeff Henderson joined the Culver Staff in August of 2016 after having been a History teacher at Banner Academy, an options school on the west side of Chicago, for three years. He also coached hockey for four years at Oak Park and River Forest High School. He is a Culver Military Academy class of 1983 graduate and spent six summers at Woodcraft Camp. Henderson graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science. He went on to pursue a Master's degree in Secondary Education from National Louis University. He has worked in the television and film industry, traded at the Mercantile Exchange, and owned and operated an organic baby food business with his wife Denise. In addition to being the Company B counselor, Jeff is the Varsity A assistant hockey coach. Jeff and his wife, Denise, have two children, Grace and Jed, who are students at the Academies. Jeff Kenney Manager Museum Archives Museum jeff.kenney@culver.org 574-842-8365 Jeff Kenney grew up in Culver, the descendant of early settlers in the area. Attending Indiana University and graduating from Ancilla College, Kenney worked from 2002-2007 at theCulver-Union Twp. Public Library, where in addition to creating and promoting cultural and educational programming, he helped create an online database of thousands of images and texts relating to Culver's history. He is a board member of the Antiquarian and Historical Society of Culver, with whom he helped start the Center for Culver History, a Culver area museum still in development in the historic Carnegie portion of the library. He is also a regular speaker in the area on topics of Culver and LakeMaxinkuckee history, and has published articles on that topic in several magazines, journals, and other publications. Besides duties in the archive office and assistant to Academies historian Bob Hartman, Kenney is also editor of the Culver Citizen newspaper. Kutch, P.E., joined the Culver Academies as the Director of Facilities on September 11, 2006. As the Director of Facilities, Jeff develops and implements programs for the effective management of operations, maintenance, renovations, and construction for all functions relating to the Physical Plant and Facilities of the Culver Educational Foundation. His education is in Mechanical Engineering from the University of North Dakota where he received an E.I.T. Certificate and subsequently earned a Professional Engineer's License from the State of Indiana Licensing Board in January, 1992. His prior work experience includes working for, and principal ownership, of an Architectural/Engineering firm for 10 years, Project Manager for a Construction Management Company for two years, Project Manager for a Construction Management Company for two years, and Director of Facilities for two public school corporations for 13 years. She earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the University of Michigan where her work focused on ethics, continental philosophy, and Marxism. She earned a master's degree in English language and literature from Eastern Michigan University where her areas of interest included medieval and African-American literature and critical theory. She has done supplemental course work in human rights and the Arabic language. Her areas of study and teaching interest include Shakespeare, gender studies, Middle Eastern literature, and global humanities. His responsibilities include overseeing the daily operations of the Admissions Office as well as performing as an Admissions Counselor. Before joining admissions, Jerry joined Culver in 2007 and was a member of the Academies' Facilities Department as the Transportation Supervisor. Jerry earned an Associate's Degree in Business Management from Ancilla College, and a Bachelor's degree in Business Management from Indiana Wesleyan University. Prior to Culver, Jerry worked in retail management and served the local community as an Emergency Medical Technician and a Deputy Coroner. Jerry is a licensed Auctioneer in the state of Indiana. Jessica Harding Instructor Modern and Classical Language Jessica.Harding@culver.org 574-842-8015 Jessica Harding joined the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures in 2015 as an Instructor of Mandarin Chinese. She is a language enthusiast, and is glad to turn her fascination into an occupation. She began her foray into language study as an undergraduate student at Davidson College, where she majored in Spanish. After living in China for a year from 2008-2009, Jessica completed her Master's in Chinese Language at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She is glad to be back in the Hoosier state after returning to her Ohio hometown for three years. Outside of the Chinese classroom, Jessica spends her time as an academic coach in the library. A native of Philadelphia, Dr. Power comes to Culver after serving as the Principal of Upper Canada College (UCC) in Toronto since 2004. UCC is a leading International Baccalaureate World School, with about 1,200 boys in grades K-12 and with a community of boarding students from 25 different countries. While there, Dr. Power served as President of the Board of the Secondary School Admission Test Board (SSATB), and as a trustee of the International Coalition of Boys Schools and of the Canadian Educational Standards Committee. He was a Klingenstein Visiting Heads Fellowship participant in 2003. Previously, Jim was the Headmaster of Georgetown Preparatory School near Washington, D.C., and served in various roles at the Pomfret School in Connecticut from 1986 to 1993. PowerJ.jpg

He serves as Organist and Carillonneur of The Academies, playing both instruments for Sunday religious services as well as presenting recitals on both instruments. He teaches piano students at The Academies, and teaches carillon and organ students on occasion. He studied organ and carillon at Indiana University (Bloomington), the University of Michigan (Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance, 1979), and the University of Kansas (Master of Music in Organ Performance, 1981). Prior to coming to Culver, he taught at independent high schools for 8 years, including music and English at The Kiski School, a boys boarding school in Pennsylvania, where he also ran a dorm and coached tennis, soccer, and basketball. He has also taught English at Moses Brown School in Providence, RI. John earned a BA in English and music from Kenyon College in 1999. While working toward a MA in music theory and composition at Kent State, he directed the KSU Women's Ensemble and assisted in the choral music department. He is also an active composer. John serves as a coach for the CMA and CGA tennis teams and assists the Quiz Bowl team. He and his wife Lauren had their first child, a daughter named Thea, in January of 2010. He earned a bachelor's degree in history with a minor in environmental biology from Middlebury College and a master's degree in religion from Yale University Divinity School. He earned a PhD in history in conjunction with the American Studies and Religious Studies Departments at Indiana University, Bloomington, where he began his teaching career. Before coming to Culver, he taught history at a private day school for ten years in Delaware, where he taught US history, AP European, AP World History, and global issues. Since coming to Culver, he has taught 10th grade humanities and coordinated and taught in the 11th-grade American Studies Program. He has strong interests in interdisciplinary learning, global education, supporting international students and English language learners, and integrating technology into teaching. He joined the Culver Academies Wellness Education department in fall of 2000. Prior to coming to Culver, he was on faculty in the School of Education at Boston University and an associate scholar in BU's Center for the Advancement of Ethics and Character. He earned an EdD in Health Education from Boston University and has masters' degrees in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and Health Education from Worcester State (MA) College. His bachelor's degree is in Physical Education and Health from Boston State (UMass/Boston) College. As the head boy's lacrosse coach from 2001-2004, his teams won two Indiana State Championships. Since joining the Culver faculty as a Faculty Intern in 1999, Dean Pretzer has taught biology, chemistry, and leadership, and currently teaches the freshman and 4th classmen in Culver's Living, Learning, Leading course. Dean Pretzer assisted with cross country, track, and swimming during his first seventeen years at Culver and served as an Assistant Dean in Academics and for the Faculty from 2006 until his appointment to Dean of Faculty in 2016. Dean Pretzer completed a Masters' degree in Educational Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University as part of the 2006 Klingenstein Center for Independent School Leadership cohort. He is a 2013 Class of '63 Exemplar, a 2008 Williamson Fellow, and held the Eppley Chair of Science. Dean Pretzer is also honored to have received the Ralph N. Prior to her arrival to Culver, Juli worked at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She worked in several outpatient practices such as cardiology, occupational health medicine, asthma and cystic fibrosis clinic and gastroenterology, as a contract nurse. She worked in gastroenterology full-time for four years and was a staff nurse on a busy post-partum and ante-partum floor. She has also served in an obstetric clinic as a clinical care coordinator. Juli earned a Bachelor's in Nursing from Immaculata College in 2001. She graduated in 1995 from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Lafayette, Indiana, where she completed a diploma program. Prior to graduation, she worked in a family practice. She has worked in the field of Advancement since 1992, first in annual giving at the Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago, followed by a move to Northwestern's Evanston campus, where she led several initiatives including the school's Parents Fund. After moving to Minneapolis in 1997, she was hired by the Minnesota Medical Foundation at the University of Minnesota where, over a 12-year period, she worked with Medical School alumni and donors in numerous capacities. Her roles there included management of the school's alumni board, the orchestration of special events, and directing fundraising efforts for a host of programs ranging from medical school scholarships to cardiovascular research. Julie is a graduate of Northwestern University and grew up in nearby Plymouth. Karla attended Summer Camp in 1981. She joined the Summer Camp staff in 2003 where she worked for two summers as the International Student Coordinator. Prior to coming to Culver, Karla worked as an educator in Mexico and served as a school administrator. She spent a semester in Florence studying Italian. Kathy Talbot Director Student Activities Kathy.Talbot@culver.org 574-842-8295 Kathy Talbot joined the Student Life department in August 2014 as the Director of Student Activities. She plans and organizes the extracurricular activities for students both on and off campus. Kathy works closely with CAB (Campus Activities Board) which is composed of students that interview for the opportunity to help plan and put on events. Beason Board, composed of elected seniors, is also overseen by Kathy. Prior to her current role, Kathy had the honor to work as a barista for the student run Rubin Café on the Culver campus, and also worked at the Campus Store during Summer School. A graduate of Hood College '82 with a degree in Home Economics and Interior Design, Kathy worked as a designer for many years with Ethan Allen Interiors, Howard Goldman Designs, and later as the owner of her own business, Talbot Interiors. She serves as the Culver Fund Officer who works with the recent alumni. Kayla is a proud Culver Summer School alumna herself. She is a 2005 graduate of Woodcraft Camp and a 2008 graduate of Upper School from Deck 5. During her college years, Kayla came back to Culver during her summers and worked as a Woodcraft Cabin Counselor for 3 summers and an Uppercamp Deck Counselor for one summer. Simultaneously, she was also a waterski instructor. Kayla is a 2014 graduate of Ashland University. Her hobbies include water skiing, reading, and playing tennis. Kevin Bowman Instructor International Student Achievement kevin.bowman@culver.org 574-842-8001 Kevin Bowman joined the Culver Writing Center in August of 2013. As Writing Coach, his primary responsibilities are scheduling appointments and working with writers who visit the Writing Center. In addition, Mr. Bowman assists the Writing Center director in bringing awareness about the Writing Center through contests and advertising promotions, as well as, training and developing a team of student tutors. After graduating from the University of Louisville in 2013, with a degree in Interdisciplinary Humanities, Mr. Bowman, his wife, Kim, who teaches Humanities 10, and their daughter Ruby moved to Culver, Indiana, from his native Kentucky, to become a part of the Culver community. He earned a bachelor's degree in history from Purdue University and a master's degree in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. His area of study and teaching interests include ancient history, ancient languages, religious studies and archaeology. He currently teaches freshman humanities. Prior to arriving at Culver Academies, he was pursuing a doctorate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in cuneiform languages. Kevin MacNeil, Ph.D. Chief Academic Officer Academic Dean Kevin.MacNeil@culver.org 574-842-8452 Dr. Kevin MacNeil joined the Culver Academies' faculty in 1999 as Director of Studies and was appointed Academic Dean two years later. He earned a bachelors degree in mathematics from Bard College in 1981, a masters degree in mathematics from Brown University in 1984, a master's degree in philosophy from the University of Illinois in 1989 and a Ph.D. in philosophy from that same institution in 1992. He has taught a variety of courses at the college and secondary school levels in humanities, literature, mathematics and philosophy. Dr. MacNeil has given lectures and workshops on teaching and learning, (especially the teaching and learning model of the Academies) and faculty professional development to audiences in the United States and Canada. Kimberly Bowman Senior Instructor Humanities kim.bowman@culver.org 574-842-8004 Kim Bowman rejoined the Humanities department in August of 2013 after having directed an intensive language program for eight years for a large school district in Kentucky. She also worked at Culver from 1999-2005 serving as both an instructor and a manager of the Challenge Course. Bowman graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature. She went on to pursue her Master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Bowman teaches Humanities 10 - Global Perspectives. Kristin Little '75 Senior Instructor Science Kristin.Little@culver.org 574-842-8050 Kristin Myers Little graduated from the Culver Academy for Girls in 1975. She joined Culver Academies in 1985 as an instructor and herd manager in the Department of Horsemanship. Then she returned to Culver in 1990 to teach biology in the Science Department. She earned a bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Master of Science in Agriculture from Ohio State University and Science Education certification from Otterbein College. Ms. Little currently teaches Introductory Biology and Honors in Equine Science. She is the biology level chair and holds the Kinsey Chair of Science. Prior to arriving at Culver, she taught science in the Ohio Public School system, instructed students in riding at private stables, published a 4-H journal on draft horses and trained hunters and jumpers. Krystyna Hyrczyk Transportation Coordinator Motor Pool Krystyna.Hyrczyk@culver.org 574-842-8253 Krystyna Hyrczyk joined the Facilities department in October 2013. She coordinates campus transportation needs and works directly with the Culver Academy drivers. Krystyna also works closely with third party companies to schedule charter buses and rental vehicles for Culver Academy events and athletic competitions. Additionally, she works closely with the 'SchoolDude' and 'MySchoolBuilding' scheduling programs and assists with questions or issues regarding those programs. A two-time Purdue alumna, Krystyna graduated with 'High Distinction' from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis with BS in Biology and minored in Chemistry. She continued her education and received a graduate degree from Purdue's main campus, which focused in Horticulture and Youth Development in Agriculture Education. He earned a B.S. in secondary education from Indiana University Bloomington. Mr. Christiansen started his graduate work by completing an overseas teaching experience at Caulfield Grammar School in Melbourne, Australia, leading to a M.S. from Indiana University South Bend. As a part of the Klingenstein Center for Independent School Leadership, Mr. Christiansen earned a M.Ed. in educational leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University. Prior to Culver, Mr. Christiansen spent four years at NorthWood High School and two years at Carmel High School where he taught in the English departments and coached both football and baseball. Mr. Christiansen currently serves as a senior instructor of A.P. American Government and A.P. Comparative Government. Laura Weaser Associate Director of College Advising Academic Affairs Laura.Weaser@culver.org 574-842-8141 Laura Weaser joined the staff of Culver Academies in January 1983 and has served as a CGA Counselor, Assistant Dean of Girls, Assistant Dean of Students, Dean of Students and most recently concluding her time within the residential program as Dean of Girls. Laura moved to the Academic Affairs Office in the fall of 2013 where she is currently the Associate Director of College Advising. Over the years Laura has served on numerous committees, coached swimming and basketball and currently serves as an assistant coach for crew. She was awarded the Colonel Harold C. Bays Chair in Leadership. Laura earned her BS from the University of Iowa and her Masters in Administration from the University of Notre Dame. She currently serves as the Director of Stewardship. In that role, she is responsible for donor relations, stewardship reporting, and recognition. Laura graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science and, after a brief break from academics, went on to complete her Master of Education. Her previous positions include work at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and General Electric Aircraft Engines. Ms Coil-Sherck taught all levels of Physics and Chemistry at schools in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts prior to arriving at Culver. In the summer of 2007, she attended the Klingenstein Summer Institute offered by Teacher's College at Columbia University. Ms. Coil-Sherck's academic interests lie heavily in the Physics First movement and Modeling Instruction. Leann spent 14 years in College Station, TX raising her family and working at a non- profit Community Radio Station doing fundraising and event planning. Les was promoted to Assistant Environmental Services Supervisor in July 2010, and is responsible for assisting the Environmental Services Supervisor, Estill Rice, in daily operations, zone technician maintenance assignments, and daily custodial staffing requirements to maintain Culver Academies campus facilities. She oversees all CMA and CGA athletic programs which includes approximately 40 sports and 60 athletic teams. Her responsibilities include the overall operations of the athletic department and personnel management for more than 120 coaches, athletic trainers, and athletic department staff. She is also responsible for budget management, athletic facilities oversight and development, IHSAA compliance, and athletic duty roster management. Ericson also serves the Culver campus community with her administrative roles in the Academic Department Chairs team, the Center for Leader and Character Development, the Student Records Committee, the Wellness Committee, the Safety Committee, and others. Lynn Rasch '76 Dean of Girls Student Life Lynn.Rasch@culver.org 574-842-8146 Lynn Rasch is the coach and choreographer of the Equestrienne team (a girls mounted drill team and honor organization) in the Department of Horsemanship. The Equestriennes perform at the Academies and perform nationally, regionally and locally to include the Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C., the Indianapolis 500 Festival Parade in Indianapolis, IN and the Holland Tulip Festival in Holland, Michigan. The Equestriennes placed 2nd in the Midwest Horse Fair Drill Team Competition, Madison, WI, in March 1999 and March 2000. Lynn helped to prepare over 80 horses and riders for the 1981 and 1985 Presidential Inaugural Parades and coached the Equestriennes for the 1997, 2001 and 2005 Presidential Inaugural Parades. Lynn's background with horses includes Western Stock Seat Equitation, Hunter Seat Equitation/Jumpers, Dressage, and Combined Training. Maria looks after 52 beautiful, smart young ladies in Court Dorm and enjoys hearing of their academic and athletic experiences, as well as stories about their families. She has been a full time Academy employee 8 1/2 years, having worked in the Academy Post Office, the Dining Hall as Assistant Catering Manager and the Campus Store as a Sales Clerk. Mark Waller Director of Horsemanship Instruction Horsemanship Mark.Waller@culver.org 574-842-8252 Mark Waller joined the Culver Academies Horsemanship Department as a clinician in the fall of 2006. He was working on the Cavalry Program, coaching the Black Horse Troop in drill and preparing them for parades, as well as the Lancer Platoon, updating and enhancing a more challenging display. In the summer of 2007, Mark became the full time Director of Instruction for the Six Week Camp and Specialty Camp and now, Mark has become the Director of Instruction for Winter School. Mark is currently working on improving the curriculum and working new horses into the program. Mark coaches the Black Horse Troop, the Lancer Platoon and assists with the Jump Team. Mark is originally from the United Kingdom, a career as a Police Officer. Mark retired from the Metropolitan Police Mounted Branch in 2006, after 30 years of service. He was responsible for training horses and officers in drill and street duties in the Central London area. As a professional member of the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA), she serves as a director to troupe #4442 of the International Thespian Society, an honor organization for high school and middle school theatre students. She has experience in scenic design, costume design, as well as sound design. As Technical Director she coordinates the construction of sets with students who are members of the Theatre Tech Stage Crew ("techies"). Her experience in educational theatre has included a production of Omnium Gatherum at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as part of the American High School Theatre Festival. He earned a bachelor's degree in history from Valparaiso University in 1976. He went on to earn a masters degree in liberal studies from Valparaiso University in 1985 and a master's degree in mathematics from Purdue University in 1988. His areas of study and teaching interest include statistics education, educational technology, and the history of mathematics. He has taught most of the courses offered by the Mathematics Department and currently teaches Statistics and AP Statistics. Prior to arriving at Culver Academies, he taught at Kodaikanal International School in India and at Knox Community High School in Knox, Indiana. Matt Cameron Athletic Equipment Manager Sports Administration Matt.Cameron@culver.org 574-842-8237 Matt Cameron joined Culver Summer Schools and Camps in 2014 as the Fencing Director for Upper Camp. In the fall, he transitioned into the Head Fencing Coach and Athletic Equipment Manager, where he maintains the equipment for all 57 Culver Academy sports teams. Matt has been involved in the sport of fencing for over 25 years as a competitor and, more recently, as a coach. He is a 10-time national finalist and was a member of the USA Junior National Team. He has worked in sales and operations management, as well as the video coaching department for the Chicago Whitesox, Chicago Bulls, and Chicago Blackhawks. He studied Political Science and History at Loyola University and Interactive Multimedia at Columbia College, both in Chicago. She completed a master's of science degree from Northern Illinois University (NIU) and is board certified as an adult nurse practitioner and subsequently a post- masters from NIU and is board certified as a family nurse practitioner. Prior to moving to Indiana, she was employed as a provider in a private gastroenterology practice and a hospital owned family practice clinic. He has worked as a fundraiser in the field of education since 1994. Mike earned a bachelor's degree in Science from the United States Military Academy in 1982. Upon graduation, he served as an Infantry officer on active duty in the U.S. Army for seven years before transitioning into a sales and management career. Mike returned to West Point in 1994 to begin his career in Development. He ultimately became the Assistant Vice President for Development where he helped plan and execute a $218 million capital campaign for the U. S. Military Academy. Mike and his wife, Natalie, have three children. Natalie works as a fitness instructor in Culver's Siegfried Fitness Center. Mike Neller Commandant of Cadets Student Life mike.neller@culver.org 574-842-8143 Captain Mike Neller became the Commandant of Cadets in July, 2013. Captain Neller is a Michigan native who served as a U.S Submarine Officer for 29 years. Before retiring in 2007 he held numerous positions, on both coasts and overseas, related to submarine operations including commanding the USS FLORIDA (SSBN 728). During his time in the Navy he also had assignments as an instructor at Navy training commands and was a Navy ROTC Instructor and the Professor of Naval Science at Cornell University and the University of Notre Dame, respectively. Between 2007 and arriving at Culver, he worked in management at several manufacturing companies. He received his B.S. from the U.S. Naval Academy and holds an M.S. in Holistic Nutrition from Clayton College. He and his wife Jeni reside in Culver, Indiana. NellerM.jpg
Mitch Barnes Senior Instructor Humanities Mitch.Barnes@culver.org 574-842-8142 Mitch Barnes joined the Culver Academies faculty in 1992. He earned a bachelor's degree in communications (Radio & Television) at Bethany College in 1987, where he developed his skills in broadcasting, public speaking, history, and theatre. He earned a master's degree in liberal studies from Valparaiso University with an emphasis in multicultural education in 1998. He spent five years working in education as Director of the YMCA Black Achievers program in Columbus, Ohio and as Assistant Director of Admissions at Denison University before being appointed to the faculty at Culver. Since coming to Culver, Mr. Barnes has served in several capacities: counselor, college advisor, and diversity coordinator. He joined the English and History Departments (now Humanities) in 1996, teaching Speech and Racism in American Society. In 2007 he began teaching American Studies. Nancy McKinnis Master Instructor Leadership Education Nancy.McKinnis@culver.org 574-842-8059 Nancy McKinnis joined the Culver Academies' in 1980 as a Culver Girls Academy Counselor and Fine Arts Instructor. She currently teaches in the Leadership Department and directs Culver Girls Academies Leadership Training Program. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana and a Master of Science degree from The University of Bridgeport. Her areas of study and teaching interest include ethics, character development, positive psychology, leadership, service learning and art. She currently teaches the junior level ethics course and Servant Leadership Practium course. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Ms. McKinnis sponsors Culver Girls Academy's Leadership Committee for Africa, a student run organization that models collaborative leadership and provides hands on experiences for students in fundraising, event planning, research and service learning experiences in Africa. In addition to his academics at Michigan State University, Nathan was a five year member of the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey team where his role on the team was primarily backup goaltender. He earned his Bachelors' degree in mathematics from Grand Valley State University in 1998. He then earned his Masters' degree from Michigan State University in 2002. Prior to arriving in Culver, he spent six years teaching Math and Physics at the Leelanau School in northern Michigan. Mr. Counts is currently teaching Honors Elements of Calculus and Statistics. Schultz joined the Culver Academies' Department of Modern and Classical Languages in the fall of 2004. She earned a master's degree in English and American Literature from Liaoning University, Shenyang, China. Her areas of study and teaching interest include college level English and literature, college level Chinese language and literature, high school level Chinese language and culture. Prior to arriving at Culver Academies, she taught English and literature at Liaoning University for 11 years. Then she taught Chinese at Bemidji State University in MN, Iowa State University in IA, Swarthmore College in PA, and the Sidwell Friends School in Washington DC. Mrs. Schultz currently teaches Chinese III, Advanced Chinese Composition and Honors in Chinese. Oliver Eaton Instructor Humanities Oliver.Eaton@culver.org 574-842-8004 Oliver Eaton joined the Culver Academies in 2011 as a 10th grade Global Perspectives teacher, and will also be assisting in the theatre department. He is a native of Pennsylvania, where he attended Moravian Academy. He then studied history, philosophy, and theatre at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. He later received his M.A. in history from Lehigh University's Atlantic World program where he focused in the Colonial, Revolutionary, and New Republic periods of American history with a heavy focus in Slavery and Native American studies. He started his teaching career as an intern with the Advanced Studies Program at the St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire, where he returned briefly as assistant director. After beginning his undergraduate career at Penn State, he earned a bachelor's degree from Roanoke College (Political Science) and graduate degrees from Antioch School of Law (International Trade & Commerce) and Harvard University (Educational Administration). Peter has over twenty-five years of independent school experience as a teacher (history and English) and as an administrator (roles in admissions, development, and school leadership). Prior to assuming a teaching role at Culver, Peter served for two seasons as an assistant coach in CMA's nationally prominent lacrosse program. Over the years, Peter has coached at Severn, St. Albans, Cardigan Mountain, and North Cross at the prep level, and Georgetown and Harvard at the intercollegiate level. He also serves as assistant coach for CMA's varsity soccer team and continues his work in lacrosse. Richard directs and supervises system's staff to carry out work necessary to meet the demands for campus and residential plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and the power house. Before coming to Culver, Rich was the Maintenance Supervisor responsible for 165 Village Pantry stores in four states. Rich had also worked as a millwright at Bethlehem Steel, served as a police officer, a deputy coroner, and a volunteer fire fighter. Rich has a son Rod, a daughter Theresa, and four grandchildren. His areas of study and teaching interests include American and European History. Mr. Battersby currently teaches 11th-grade Humanities (American Studies with Advanced Placement U.S. History). He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from San Jose State University. He went on to complete the three year conservatory program in Acting from the Acting Academy at LACC in Los Angeles and then received his Master of Arts degree in directing from Wayne State University. His areas of study and interest include 19th Century American drama, Acting, Directing, Film History and Criticism, Theatre History and Criticism and American History. He currently teaches Acting I and the Acting Workshops, and Film Study. In July of 2013, he transitioned to the Warehouse Supervisor position bringing over 30 years' experience in supervision and inventory control. His responsibilities include shipping, receiving, tracking inventory and working closely with other departments and coworkers. He holds an Associate's Degree in Business and enjoys golfing. Robert Nowalk Master Instructor Fine Arts Robert.Nowalk@culver.org 574-842-8278 Robert (Bob) Nowalk joined the Academies' Fine Arts teaching staff in 1996 after spending 21 years as a Visual Arts Educator and artist in Dayton, Ohio. Bob's work with aspiring artists of all ages made him uniquely qualified to serve not only as an instructor in the Winter School Visual Arts area but also, beginning in 1998, as Director of Arts and Crafts at Woodcraft. Bob holds a Masters Degree in Fine Arts from Michigan State University and Bachelors from the University of Dayton. As an artist and teacher, Bob has received recognition and awards from a variety of institutions including fellowships and grants from the Ohio Arts Council, The Cincinnati Contemporary Art Center, The Council for Basic Education in Washington D.C., and the Indiana Arts Commission. After graduating from UW-Eau Claire with her Master's in English Literature, she was hired to work as a lecturer. She taught composition, rhetoric, and research methods to incoming students and transfer students. She served as the Equestriennes' captain in both her junior and senior years. A highlight of her time at Culver was being a part of the 2005 Presidential Inaugural Parade. Stacey Warren Master Instructor Fine Arts Stacey.Warren@culver.org 574-842-8283 Stacey Warren holds a B.M.E. degree in Choral General from DePauw University, and an M.M. with Honors in Opera Theatre Performance from Northwestern University. Stacey also studied voice at Indiana University with Martha Lipton, and attended the National Music Camp at Interlochen, Michigan. Stacey first came to Culver to teach voice and direct the Upper Camp Chapel Choir the summer of 1981 and 1982, and joined the winter school faculty in the fall of 1996 as instructor of Voice. She assumed responsibility of Choral Director in 2003, and was promoted to Master Instructor in 2007. Stacey is a member of Mu Phi Epsilon National Music Honorary, the Indiana Choral Directors Association, and served as rehearsal conductor and soloist for the Ancilla College Community Chorus performance of Vivaldi's Gloria with the South Bend Chamber Symphony. Stephen Rozek Senior Instructor and Dir. of Instrumental Music Fine Arts Stephen.Rozek@culver.org 574-842-8335 Steve Rozek joined the Culver Academies Fine Arts Department in the fall of 2016 after being appointed as the Director of Instrumental Music. Prior to coming to Culver, Mr. Rozek had the honor of serving in the United States Air Force for eight years as a military musician. He was the musical director for the Rhythm in Blue Jazz Ensemble and was heavily involved in educational outreach for the band. He has previously been on faculty at the Lawrenceville School, Albright College and The Westminster Conservatory. As a professional saxophonist Mr. Rozek has performed all around the country in a variety of capacities. Besides leading his own groups, his music has allowed him to collaborate and share the stage with several amazing artists and musical groups including Eddie Daniels, Terrell Stafford, Billy Kilson, Ed Shaughnessy, Brian Bromberg, Ben Vereen, The O-Jays, The Mills Brothers, The South Bend Symphony and The Virginia Symphony. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Clarkson University in 1996, majoring in Engineering and Management. While there, Steve played Hockey and was a two-time Academic All-American and Rhodes Scholar nominee. From 1996-2009, Steve played professionally in Europe and was on championship teams in both Germany and Italy. Steve returned to the United States in 2010 to begin a coaching career. Steve was an assistant coach at the University of Denver under two-time NCAA Champion Head Coach George Gwozdecky for the 2010-11 season. For the last two seasons, Steve has been coaching in the USHL. Thomas Thornburg Mentor Instructor Modern and Classical Language Tom.Thornburg@culver.org 574-842-8361 Tom Thornburg joined the Culver Academies' Department of Modern and Classical Languages in 1978. He earned his bachelor of arts in German from Wabash College in 1976. He then earned a master's degree from Northwestern University in 1980. His interest in Spanish began while in high school. In the summer of 1971, he participated in an exchange program to Guayaquil, Ecuador. He spent his junior year of undergraduate study at the Goethe Institute in Munich, Germany. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Thornburg previously coordinated the Academies' fencing program and currently works with the spring and fall crew teams. He was named Mentor Instructor and Batten Fellow in 2009, and served as Faculty Intern Coordinator from 2007 to 2014. Tim Montgomery Mentor Counselor CMA Student Life Tim.Montgomery@culver.org 574-842-8337 Tim Montgomery (Master Advisor) joined the Culver Academies' Student Life department in 1990 as a Military Tactical Officer for the Band and Black Horse Troop. In 2001, he joined the counseling ranks as Counselor of Company A until 2004, at which point he moved to the Black Horse Troop. In 2007, he became the Counselor of Black Horse Troop B. He continues to remain very involved in the Horsemanship Program and the Black Horse Troop Lancer Platoon, and has accompanied the Black Horse Troop to three Presidential Inaugural parades. Mr. Montgomery attended Ball State University and earned a Bachelor's degree in Management from Bethel College. He is married to Kathleen and has three children: Heather, CGA '02, T.J. Troy Heckaman Compliance Manager Campus Safety and Security troy.heckaman@culver.org 574-842-7488 Troy Heckaman joined the Culver family on October 8th, 2012 as the Director of Safety/Security Supervisor. Troy is responsible to oversee the operations of the Campus Security Department and Risk Management programs of the Culver Educational Foundation to help ensure the safety, security and protection of the members of the campus community and its assets. Troy's educational and operational experience covers a wide range of expertise. Troy served as Director of Preparedness with the American Red Cross managing its Disaster Services and Health & Safety programs. Prior to his time with the ARC, Troy served 10 years as a college Campus Safety Director here in Indiana. Troy holds a Master's degree in Administration from Ball State University and Bachelor degrees in Criminal Justice/Psychology and Art History with an Associates degree in Visual Communications. He prioritizes, organizes, plans, and coordinates daily operations with the Painters, Carpenters, Zone Techs, and Canvas Shop to accomplish requested tasks. He works closely with the Director and Facilities, Operations Manager, Projects Coordinator and supervisors to effectively complete requests for maintaining the Culver campus. William Farmer (LTC, USA, Retired) Senior Instructor Mathematics William.Farmer@culver.org 574-842-8260 Bill Farmer joined the Culver Academies in 2014 after retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army with over 23 years of service. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the United States Military Academy and his Master's Degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Kentucky. In addition to his 3-years as an Assistant Professor at the United States Military Academy, Bill has taught at Kansas City Community College (Kansas) and Central Texas College (Alaska and Honduras) for over 7 years of collegiate teaching experience. Bill was an Airborne Trooper with three deployments while serving as a Field Artillery, Finance and Operations Research Officer. During his time in the Army, he spent 11 years in overseas assignments. He enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, skiing, exercise, reading and movies. As director, his primary management responsibilities include overseeing all internal and external publications, brand and product design, public relations, student and event photography, and website communications. A 1977 graduate of Culver Military Academy, Bill returned to Culver with more than 15 years of marketing and business development experience at companies such as Frito-Lay and Mercedes-Benz. He earned a bachelor's degree in applied science and engineering from the United States Military Academy in 1982 and an MBA at the Anderson Schools of Management in 1992. Bill also serves as the assistant CGA Varsity Soccer coach. She earned bachelor's and master's degrees in Physics from the Faculty of Science, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest, Hungary as well as a second bachelor's degree in English and Russian / Education from Teacher Training College, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest, Hungary. Prior to arriving at the Culver Academies, she taught mathematics at Saint Ann's School, Brooklyn, NY. Her areas of study and teaching interests include physics and various levels of mathematics including pre-calculus honors. Ms. Czifrík currently teaches Physics. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Ms. Czifrík is a Bout Committee Chair, Assistant Coach and Armourer for the Fencing Team.
