All aviators are required to take two periods of aviation classes daily. Several electives are available and may be taken with the required classes. Microsoft Flight Simulator may be accessed in certain classes. They select from all the other activity electives to fill the four remaining activity periods.

School of Aviation Overview

HISTORY

In 1971, Culver founded a newly established Aviation program. With its formation and the building of Fleet Field, the Academy’s former private airport, the Summer School of Aviation became an important part of Culver Upper Camp.

Today, the Summer School of Aviation provides various ground school and simulation electives. Families may make personal arrangements with local airports for flight instruction.

Aviation Ground School
Study actual FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Test topics and published questions. Instructor’s endorsement may be given to take the written knowledge test depending on performance on comprehensive practice tests.

Learn aircraft instruments and instrument flight procedures in the Frasca 131 Flight Simulator.

Radio Control (RC) Model Simulator Lab
Learn and practice RC model flight simulation software. Proficiency enables ability to fly RC models at Culver.
