George fenced both epee and foil for Culver Military
Academy between 1967 and 1971, compiling a
record against college opponents in his senior year of 83-18.
He later fenced epee for West Point, where he led Army to the first
victory over Navy in 23 years. He is the father and
coach of George Blackburne, IV (CMA '03), who is
now an "A" rated epee fencer and who recently
took 6th place at the Junior World Cup in Montreal. The elder Blackburne
was Indiana State Champion in both epee and foil in 1970 and 1971.
He is still active in the Veteran epee circuit.
