Raiders nab All-State honors
How's this for respect?
Six members of this year's Northridge High School girls cross country team have received All-State recognition from the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches.
Northridge's leaders at the state finals, Hannah Miller and Karissa Cominator, have been named to the All-State second team in Class 3A-4A (medium-sized schools).
Four other Raiders -- Aimee Gingerich, Hanna Mercer, Megan Miller and Jessie LaFree -- earned honorable mention.
Culver Girls Academy junior Alex Banfich was named girls Runner of the Year in Class 3A-4A. Banfich is Indiana's two-time defending state champion. CGA junior Kiley Trennepohl and sophomore Mary Peter earned honorable mention.
Jimtown's Emily Dean was named to the All-State first team in Class 1A-2A (small schools). Fairfield's Diamond Setterberg received second team honors.
In the large school class (5A), Riley senior Sunsea Shaw was named to the second team.
Among boys, Loren Spirito of Northridge was the only Tribune-area runner to pick up first team recognition. Another Raider boy, Andrew Albert, was named to the All-State third team in Class 3A-4A.
Dan Neidlinger of Plymouth was placed on the second team.
Elkhart Memorial's Jaurice Dye was named to the second team in Class 5A. So was LaPorte's Mike Fout, whose season was shortened by injury.Austin O'Connor of Glenn received second team recognition in Class 1A-2A.
