Alexia Clay Chosen As Hoosier Diamond’s 2006 Miss
Softball
Culver Academy’s Alexia Clay has been
selected to receive the 2006 Hoosier Diamond Miss Softball Award.
Clay, during the 2006 season, finished
second in the state with a .611 batting average with 44 hits
in 72 at bats through the regular season. Clay also recorded a .633
on base percentage, 1.346 slugging percentage, 25 stolen bases, 40 runs
scored, 43 RBI’s, 12 doubles, 2 triples, and 15 homeruns through 26
games. Defensively, Clay a catcher, posted a fielding percentage of
.995. Clay also recorded 43 career homeruns and 1,305 career put
outs by a catcher.
Alexia will continue her softball
playing career next year at the University of Tennessee. Ralph
Weekly, University of Tennessee softball coach, was quoted saying
“Alexia is an extremely intelligent student-athlete. She is one of
the best hitters we have ever recruited. She is a natural leader and
a consummate field general. Alexia will play both catcher and
outfielder for us.”
Throughout her high school career Clay
has also received Louisville Slugger’s All-American honors and
Gatorade’s Indiana Player of the Year.
“She is the hardest working athlete I
have ever been around. She goes all out all the time, not matter what,”
said Culver varsity softball coach Jen Mascari.
