Given
in memory of Cal C. Chamber ’08, the Chambers
Award recognizes the first classman who has
distinguished himself with a combination of
excellence in scholarship and athletics. This
year’s recipient was Cesar Gutierrez of
Troop, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cesar Gutierrez
of Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
A
three-year student at The Academies, Gutierrez
earned three Gold A’s and one Silver, The
Academies’ highest and second-highest academic
honors reserved for those students earning a
minimum semester grade point average of 3.7 and
3.2, respectively. Other academic honors include
induction into the Cum Laude Society, a national
academic honor organization for seniors. He also
was named a recipient of The President’s
Education Award given to seniors with a GPA of
at least 3.5 and scores in the 85th percentile or above in either the SAT verbal,
SAT math, or ACT composite national tests.
Gutierrez
was a member of the varsity swimming and tennis
teams all three years at Culver.
He
advanced to the position of Squadron Commander
in the Cavalry and was a member of the Culver
Black Horse Troop that participated in the
January 2001 Presidential Inaugural Parade in
Washington, D.C.
Gutierrez
will attend Northwestern University in Evanston,
Ill., this fall.
