They made a difference

OUR OPINION

The town of Culver has received an extraordinary gift from the students of the Culver Academies. Besides its obvious value, it serves as an example of how a group of people can make short work of what otherwise might take years to accomplish.

Last Sunday afternoon, more than 280 students converged on the town park to celebrate National Youth Service Day.

The students prepared flower beds, spiffed up barbecue grills, removed debris from the beach and trails and planted 62 trees.

The town had been forced to delay refurbishing the park due to lack of funds and didn't expect such an extensive landscaping project to be affordable for seven or eight years.

Besides its tangible value, the Culver Academies kids' gift to the town should serve as an inspiration to other organizations, schools or businesses in search of a good deed. What a meaningful, lasting difference you can make!
