Jeanne
Chuman ’01 was the recipient of The
President’s Bowl.
A gift of a CMA cadet, The President’s
Bowl is reserved for the graduate of Culver
Girls Academy whose character and achievement
have brought honor to The Academies and to
herself. This year’s recipient, Jeanne Chuman,
is a resident of Tower dorm and the daughter of
Drs. Charles and Mary Chuman of Chesterton, Ind.
Chuman
is a four-year student and was the Senior
Prefect for two leadership rotations, including
the Honor Make. She held several other
leadership and dormitory positions during her
years at CGA.
Chuman
earned five Gold A’s and one Silver A, the
highest and second-highest academic honors
reserved for students earning a minimum semester
grade point average of 3.7 and 3.2,
respectively. She also was among the early
inductees for the Cum Laude Society, a national
academic honor organization for seniors.
She
was a recipient of The President’s Education
Award, given to seniors with a GPA of at least
3.5 and scores in the 85th
percentile on either the SAT verbal, SAT math or
ACT composite, and the C.S. Young Award, given
by the English Department to the member of the
graduating class who best exhibits those
scholarly and personal qualities that
characterized the late C.S. Young, a teacher
from 1917-61.
Chuman
participated in varsity soccer and track and
field and received the Outstanding Midfielder
Award in soccer. She was a member of the
Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Alliance
for Student Harmony,
Choices, the Community Service Organization, and
ASIA (Alliance for Students Interested in Asia).
She
will be a freshman at the University of Southern
California in Los Angeles.
