The 2010 Culver Spring Break in Mission program will be the twenty second year of providing service-learning and cultural exchange opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and patrons who have a desire to learn about another culture and to live responsibly as global citizens. Reverend Tom Steffen, the former Dean of the Chapel developed the Spring Break in Mission Trips Program twenty two years ago and this program is one of his remarkable legacies.
There have been Culver Mission trips in six states, Puerto Rico and nineteen countries. This year there will be eight sites from which to choose. By September 15, we will post brief descriptions that will highlight the countries we plan to visit and the specific missions we hope to conduct. Teams will depart from campus either after 3:30 PM on Friday, March 19 or on Saturday, March 20, 2010. All mission trips will return to campus by Saturday, April 3. Since the Culver Spring Break does not end until Tuesday, April 6, students will be encouraged to spend the remainder of break with friends, family or faculty/staff.
There will be a scholarship opportunity for one CGA student and one CMA cadet to receive $2,500 toward a 2010 Culver Spring Break in Mission trip. The applicants for the Stephen B. Woodruff ’65 Mission Trip Scholarship (which can be freshman, sophomores, juniors or seniors) had to submit a 1-2 page essay that describes their interests in a particular mission trip and why they embody the criteria and qualities that were important to the alumnus Stephen B. Woodruff. The application deadline for this scholarship has passed.
