Dean of the Chapel

The Culver Academies, a non-sectarian, coeducational, 9-12th grade boarding school, seeks an individual who is ordained in a mainline Protestant denomination to serve as the Dean of the Chapel and Religious Life. The dean is responsible for promoting the pursuit of spiritual truth among students, faculty, and staff, for strengthening the rich diversity of religious faith and practice, and for providing pastoral care and counseling within the campus community. 

Principal duties of the dean are as follows:
• Is responsible for ecumenical worship and for official ceremonies of the school
• Reports to the Head of Schools and works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and colleagues in administration
• Has oversight responsibility for the Memorial Chapel (a large, beautiful gothic building), its budget, program, and its staff, which includes a part-time Roman Catholic priest and an adjunct Episcopal priest; a visiting rabbinic student; a visiting Buddhist nun; an organist and carillonneur; and a director of vocal music; and the Religious and Spiritual Life Council
• Coordinates the Spring Break in Mission Program, which places over 150 students, faculty, staff, and patrons in several foreign countries each year to work and live among people who live on the margins of society. 

The position of the Dean of the Chapel and Religious Life is a prominent one. The dean must have the capacity to recognize persons and groups of all faiths and traditions as full participants and equal partners, and be capable of leading the campus community to a new level of engagement in interfaith dialogue and understanding. 

The successful candidate will hold one or more advanced degrees and will have significant pastoral and leadership experience in a campus or congregational setting.
