Pink Culver raises $5,000

Four Culver Military Academy first classmen made a special $4,000 donation to Paqui Kelly, wife of Notre Dame head football coach Brian Kelly, prior to start of the Culver-Fairfield football game Oct. 12. The donation will support the Kelly Cares Foundation.
As part of their senior service practicum, Aramonti Phillips, Tristan Van de Velde, Alex Fayemi, and Mason Quinn sold breast cancer awareness "Pink Culver" T-shirts to students for Friday's game. Proceeds from those sales were donated to the Kelly Cares Foundation. The Culver cheerleaders sold eye black with pink logos to support the foundation. Students were then asked to wear the hot pink shirts and eye black to the final home game against Fairfield.
The presentation to Mrs. Kelly, who was escorted by The Culver Educational Foundation board member Mike Wilcox, took place prior to the start of the game.
The Fairfield team and fans also participated, presenting Mrs. Kelly with a $1,000 check, bringing the total contributed to approximately $5,000. Both teams were on the field during the presentation.
The Kelly Cares Foundation's mission is to support organizations, initiatives and programs that closely align with the goals and values of the Kelly family in three main pillars; Health: personal involvement with an emphasis on breast cancer research and prevention; Education: institutional advancement at all levels and capacities; and Community: involvement in selected initiatives and projects.
Paqui Kelly is a two-time survivor of breast cancer. The Kellys have an existing relationship with Culver as their three children have attended Culver Summer Schools and Camps.
The donation presentation was part of Culver's Senior Night festivities. The Eagles won the game, 40-24, to finish the regular season at 7-2. They will travel to John Glenn for the first game of the sectional this Friday, Oct. 19. Game time is 7 p.m. EDT.
