Through Culver's distinctive emphasis on leadership throughout the camp experience, campers have fun with a purpose: to prepare for successful participation in life. Whether in living units, team involvement, personal performance, or instructional activities, Culver's leadership structure supports the development of personal and group responsibility.

Leadership is taught through an emphasis on building personal confidence by improving physical and mental skills, as well as by providing a structured, fun-filled environment that helps young people to relax and enjoy the learning experience. Learning to take care of themselves, their surroundings, and others fosters a self respect and confidence that supports them in every area of their lives.

An Upper Camp day is packed with opportunities to learn while having the time of your life. Six instructional activity periods -- four in the morning and two after lunch--give campers a chance to choose from almost 70 different athletic, academic, or other elective activities. Beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels of instruction are available in almost all of the electives.

Designed to enhance a camper's love of a particular interest or to introduce the camper to activities yet to be discovered, Upper Camp's instructional day is always challenging, rewarding, and fun. Boys attending Upper Camp choose a "major" in Horsemanship, Aviation, or Naval Camp. This choice determines which uniform they wear. Each major requires two activity periods daily. Boys may fill their remaining activity schedule with any activity offered.

While Upper Camp Girls are encouraged to have an activity focus, all girls wear the same uniform and may select from any of the activities offered, including equitation and sailing. Boys and girls participate together in special events, evening and extracurricular activities, as well as most electives.

Afternoons filled with intramural sports provide an opportunity for competition, a context for trying out new leadership skills, and the chance to be part of a team. Sports include volleyball, basketball, softball, soccer, track, cross-country, sailing and rowing races, and swimming. Later in the day, campers may attend scheduled events, visit with friends, join a wide variety of optional activity groups, or use any of Culver's facilities including the nine-hole golf course, 15 tennis courts, ice rink, swim piers, and sailboats.

Relaxing evenings are filled with special programs, awards ceremonies, trips to sporting and cultural events, dances, and exhibitions. After a full day of activity, evenings provide a chance to broaden personal horizons while getting to know others in less structured settings.

Culver's Upper Camp offers an unparalleled opportunity for self-discovery through development of mind, body, and spirit. It's a place to have fun and make friends, and to gain skill in areas of interest.

So look forward to the summer of a lifetime this year. Look into Culver Upper Camp. There's something just right for you.
