Aly Schmit
Rowing2012 Team captain: Aly Schmit (Grafton, WI) Aly is a four year member of crew. In addition to rowing in the spring, she has been a member of the varsity ice hockey team, and a cheerleader. During the 2010 fall season she is rowing and working to improve even more. As a ninth grader Aly was a member of the Novice 8+ (18-6) that placed fourth at Midwest Scholastic Championship, and the Novice 4+ (8-2). She shared the Outstanding Novice award at the end of the season. Her tenth grade year she raced in both the Varsity 8+ (8-6) and Varsity 4+ (9-6). Since the Varsity 8+ contained only one twelfth grader, it raced as a Junior 8+ and Junior 4+ at the 2009 Midwest Scholastic Championship, and placed fifth in both events. As an eleventh grader she rowed in the Varsity 8+ (20-6, placing third at the Midwest Scholastic Championship), Varsity 4+ (8-1), and Junior 4x. The Junior 4x was the 2011 Midwest Scholastic Champion, and raced at the American Scholastic Championship. "I am definitely looking forward to being co-captain of the 2012 crew team. With multiple strong returning girls in the varsity boat, I am excited to get out and compete in some regattas! We lost three seniors from our boat last year including our stroke and coxswain, but I think we have at least three girls that will step up to fill their roles. I feel lucky to receive the opportunity to contribute my input to the team as a leader and help the experienced rowers and novices improve. Hopefully, they will help me learn and improve not only my leadership traits but rowing as well. The Culver crew team consists of rowers who put forth their best effort in practice, character at the boathouse and road-trips, and the enthusiasm to win. I cannot wait to witness it all again this coming season."
