College Advising Guidance Classes
Mrs. Kline and Mr. Jaffee teach the required
Guidance Class for juniors during the spring. This
segment of the course focuses upon the creation of
the initial college list, familiarity with college
applications, creation of a resume, and preparation
for the college tour and interview. They continue
the Guidance Class during the fall of the senior
year. The final element of the course centers upon
obtaining and completing college applications,
registering for standardized testing, constructing
college applications/personal statements, and
obtaining teacher recommendations.
Working with the College Advisor
In the second half of their junior year, all
students are assigned an individual College Advisor.
This advisor assists each student in clarifying an
initial college list and working through the college
application process. The College Advisor writes the
student's school statement in the Fall of the senior
year.
Working with the Staff of
College Advising
The Staff of College Advising meets individually
with each junior and senior in the following
manner:

- creation/explanation of the initial college
list
April-May
- modification of the college list with Dr.
Turner.
Senior
Year
September-October
- completion of the college list
College Visitation to Culver
Each year, over 60 representatives from a wide
variety of college admission offices visit the
Culver campus. During these visits, juniors and
seniors have the opportunity to:
*learn
more about these institutions
*obtain
applications and other written materials
*ask
specific questions of these representatives
*interview
with these representatives
