About the Sponsor
Michael Huffington graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1965 as a member of Company C. He went on to earn degrees in economics and engineering from Stanford University and an MBA in finance from Harvard Business School.
Mr. Huffington is a philanthropist who founded the Archangel Michael Foundation, which supports charitable work around the world. His philanthropic activities and commitments are varied and worldwide. Among the organizations he has supported financially or the boards on which he has served include the Aspen Institute in Aspen, Colorado; the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City; the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy; Georgetown University; the Greek Orthodox Archdioceses of America in New York City; the Music Center of Los Angeles; the Natural Resources Defense Council in New York City; the Salzburg Seminar in Salzburg, Austria; and the University of California at Santa Barbara. He also is a co-founder with Loyola Marymount University of the Huffington Ecumenical Institute at LMU in Los Angeles.
He also has two film companies, Lanai Productions LLC and Huffington Productions LLC, and has been a producer or executive producer of a number of short, feature-length, and documentary films.
From 1993 to 1995, Mr. Huffington served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from California’s 22nd District. Prior to that, he was appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Negotiations Policy by President Reagan. He is the recipient of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service.
He is a trustee emeritus of The Culver Educational Foundation. Mr. Huffington also has served Culver in a number of other capacities, including as a past president of the Culver Legion Board, the alumni organization for Culver Military Academy and Culver Girls Academy. He worked closely with architect Paul Kennon on the Huffington Library, which is named in honor of his father and mother, Roy and Phyllis Huffington, and one of the most notable buildings on the Culver Academies campus.
Mr. Huffington is a member of the Greek Orthodox Church and attends Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Houston and St. Sophia Cathedral in Los Angeles.
He has two daughters, Christina and Isabella.
