Culver Academies' Batten Scholars Class

The
following students are the seventh class of Batten Scholars.
Seventeen
finalists were selected from among
157 applicants and
invited to visit the campus
for
a weekend of school activities, interviews and Batten Scholars
dinner.
The
following five scholars were selected from among those 17.

Alexis
Howard
’09
Alexis
Howard is daughter of James and Kelly Howard of Bourbon,
Indiana. Among her many extracurricular activities, the
former
Triton
Junior High School
straight-A student competed in basketball, volleyball and
softball, in addition to being a concert-level
saxophonist. As an eighth-grader, she scored better than
1300 on the SAT exam.
Adam
Shippey ’08

Adam
Shippey is the son of Eugene and Dauri Shippey of
Lawrenceville,
New Jersey. As a freshman at
SciCore
Academy, the straight-A student competed in football and
tennis, and he has been both a pianist and cellist since
early childhood. He also was a member of the Boy Scouts
and the chess club.
Kit
Sitterley ’09

Kit
Sitterley is the son of Kedmun and Carol Sitterley of
Mooresville,
North Carolina. A standout student at
Brawley
Middle School
before matriculating at Culver, he competed in ice hockey
at an elite level, in addition to being a guitarist, piano
player and drummer.
Yasong
“Kelsey” Wang ’09

Yasong
“Kelsey” Wang is the daughter of Tao Wang and Hai Jun
Zhou of Plano, Texas. Previously a straight-A student at
Rice
Middle School, she competed in volleyball, played the
violin and was a member of the National Junior Honor
Society.
Taylor
Whitsett ’09

Taylor
Whitsett is the daughter of Laurie Whitsett of Naples,
Florida, and Greg Whitsett of Gainesville, Florida. Prior
to Culver, Whitsett attended East Naples Middle School,
where she was an outstanding student and competed in
volleyball and track and field, in addition to playing the
cello in the orchestra.
