Josh PretzerAssistant Dean
Josh Pretzer is the Assistant Academic Dean and a Senior Instructor of Science at Culver Academies. Since joining the Culver faculty as a Faculty Intern in 1999, Mr. Pretzer has taught introductory biology and chemistry, assisted with cross country, track and swimming, lived in a barracks, and has served on a host of committees including Culver's Program Design, Department Chairs, Wellness, Batten Scholarship, and Executive Committees. As Assistant Academic Dean, Mr. Pretzer is currently focused on cultivating in-house opportunities for faculty development and providing Culver faculty with meaningful formative and summative feedback. In this role, Mr. Pretzer steers Culver's Professional Learning Community movement, helps facilitate the Teaching, Learning and Culture group for newer faculty, is a part of the Academic Information Technology Department leadership team, serves on the Program Evaluation Committee, and is Culver's Folio administrator.
Mr. Pretzer completed a Masters' degree in Educational Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University as part of the 2006 Klingenstein Center for Independent School Leadership cohort. He is a 2008 Williamson fellow and holds the Eppley Chair of Science. Mr. Pretzer is honored to have received the Ralph N. Manuel Award from the student body in 2004 and General Delmar T. Spivey Award from the academic department chairs in 2003.
Outside of his responsibilities at Culver, Mr. Pretzer works with the National Science Foundation grant project Active Chemistry, serves as a Fellow for the Folio Collaborative, and Co-Directs the Klingenstein Summer Institute for early career teachers. Mr. Pretzer spends all of his time outside work with his wife, Erin, and two young children, Madeline and Finn.
