Meet The Faculty
Julie Thornburg
Julie Thornburg joined the Culver Academies’ Department of Modern and Classical Languages in 1976. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Indiana University in 1973. She then earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Purdue University in 1975. Her interest in Spanish began while in high school. In the summer of 1968, she participated in an immersion program in San Luis Potosí, Mexico with the IU Honors Program in Foreign Languages for High School Students. She spent her junior year of undergraduate study at La Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Those remarkable experiences led her to a career in language education. Prior to arriving at Culver Academies, she taught Spanish at Purdue University as a Teaching Assistant.
In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Mrs. Thornburg assists with supervisory duties as Officer in Charge. She is married to Thomas Thornburg, also in the Language Department, and together they have one son who graduated from the Culver Academies W’2004.
