The CGA Leadership Training Program prepares students for leadership within the Prefect System and for future leadership opportunities beyond The Academies. Through observation, reflection and practice students learn leadership skills and tasks that they will use when they assume leadership positions within the Prefect System. Students also gain experience learning life skills such as writing an application and resume, interviewing, problem solving, group communication and time management.

Students interested in serving as a prefect are required to successfully complete CGA Leadership Training. Each spring, training is required of sophomores and juniors to equip them with leadership skills and give them an opportunity to make an informed decision to opt in or out of the prefect system for the following academic year. New juniors and new seniors who want to become prefects, have the opportunity to complete leadership training during the fall (first/second rotation).

The Leadership Training Program includes two formal phases of training, Phase 1 and Phase 2, designated to prepare students for leadership each academic year. Prefects also receive ongoing in-service training and evaluation throughout their leadership experience.
