JJ Schmiedlin

JJ Schmiedlin joined the Culver English Department in the summer of 1997. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Bethany College with an emphasis in British literature. Mr. Schmiedlin spent a year abroad studying in Oxford, England. In 1997, he finished his graduate studies at Kent State University, and earned a master of arts in teaching. Since coming to Culver, Mr. Schmiedlin has taught at the freshman, sophomore, and junior levels. He served as the 9th grade program coordinator from 2001-2008, and relinquished the post to move to the American Studies program at the junior level. In addition to teaching American Studies, he teaches the AP Language and Composition class.

He is the head coach of the Culver Academies U16 AAA hockey team. He was drawn to Culver by the Humanities and hockey programs.  His wife Beth Schmiedlin is a counselor for CGA, and they have three boys: Jack, Paddy and Connor.
