Students at Culver Academies may take private music lessons with teachers of keyboard, voice and band and orchestra instruments. The Fine Arts Department offers this resource as an opportunity for those who want to continue their musical studies seriously, and for those who just want to try something new.

Private lessons are usually given once per week, and as a rule, students are expected to practice about ½ hour per day. When high demand exceeds the available time in our contracted teachers' schedules, we ask adjunct teachers to help us fill the needed lesson times. So far, we have been fortunate to match most students' interests most of the time.

The fee for private music lessons is based on the going rate in our area, and for 2013-14 will be $330.00 per term, or 1,320.00 per year. This fee applies to our own instructors on staff, as well as the adjunct teachers we bring in to campus. Musicians who contribute to the musical life of the school by being enrolled in band, choir, or orchestra are eligible to receive a two-thirds fee reduction for private lessons ($110 per term, $440 per year). In the case of instrumental lessons, the lessons must be for the same instrument the student plays in the ensemble to be eligible for the discount. Students on financial aid may also be eligible for a fee reduction based on the amount of assistance they receive (though never less than the band, choir or orchestra discount).

Students who wish to take private lessons should:

• enroll in the course through their academic advisor
• take the personal initiative to contact the private instructor, and
• arrange a mutually agreeable class period for weekly lessons.
