Maj. William Browne
Maj. William Browne, Master Instructor, joined the Fine Arts Department in 1981, and serves as the Music Area Coordinator. He has directed bands and orchestras, taught leadership, music history, music theory, songwriting, and private lessons. He often directs the pit orchestras in the Academies' musical productions. He holds the Hough Family Chair of Fine Arts, and also assists with several outdoor education programs at Culver. Maj. Browne came to Culver as director of the Summer Naval Band, and taught music for several years in South Carolina. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Performance and Music Education from Ball State University, a Master of Music in French horn performance from Catholic University of America, and a Master of Science degree in Instructional Systems from Indiana University. For many years he played in, managed and conducted the Air National Guard Band of the Midwest. Maj. Browne plays Principal Horn in the Kokomo Symphony and Kokomo Park Band, and performs regularly with the North American Brass Company as well as several regional bands and orchestras. Maj. Browne and his wife, Linda, who teaches English Studies and serves at the Huffington Library have two children: Amy Browne Mason 1994 Graduate (Atrium) 1989 Woodcraft Graduate (Cardinal 2), and Michael Browne 1997 Graduate (Band) 1992 Woodcraft Graduate (D&B).
