Meet The Faculty
Maj. William Browne
Maj. William Browne joined the Academies’ Fine Arts Department in 1981, and is the department’s Music Area Coordinator. He also holds the Hough Family Chair of Fine Arts. Since then he has directed bands and orchestras, and taught music history, theory, leadership, and private lessons in that time. Maj. Browne came to Culver from directing the Summer Naval Band, and he also taught music for several years in South Carolina. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Music Performance and Education from Ball State University. He also earned a Master of Music in horn performance from Catholic University of America, and has a Master of Science degree in Instructional Systems from Indiana University. For many years he played in, managed and conducted the Air National Guard Band of the Midwest. Maj. Browne plays Principal Horn in the Kokomo Symphony and Kokomo Park Band, and performs regularly with the Mariah Wind Quintet, the North American Brass Company, and regional bands and orchestras. He also assists with outdoor programs at Culver. Maj. Browne and his wife, Linda, who teaches digital citizenship at the Huffington Library, have two children: Amy Browne Mason 1994 Graduate (Atrium) 1989 Woodcraft Graduate (Cardinal 2), and Michael Browne 1997 Graduate (Band) 1992 Woodcraft Graduate (D&B).
