Joplin, Missouri

Educational/Cultural/Service

March 20 – March 27, 2013

The small town of Joplin, Missouri was forever changed on a warm spring evening in 2011, when one of the worst tornadoes in recent memory swept through the center of the quiet southern town. The storm took the lives of 162 people, leaving thousands of others with nothing. The residents of Joplin came together as one, united and determined to rebuild their community, but the task is tall, and they still need our help. This March, a group of dedicated Culver students and faculty will travel to Joplin and partner with Next Step Ministries to serve the community of Joplin in the rebuilding effort. Students will work on full building projects from the foundation up, as well as many much-needed repairs such as roofing, siding, dry walling, framing and flooring. Next Step’s skilled construction staff is in place and ready to direct students through the rebuilding process. In addition to serving, students will also experience Next Step’s unique, transformative worship services every night, complete with a full praise band and challenging topical devotionals. The trip will end with a free “beach day” in Joplin, as well as a fun stop by St. Louis’ famous City Museum and Zoo on our way back to Culver.
