Memorial Chapel

The Memorial Chapel is a living tribute to the 6,500 Culver men who served so gallantly in the Armed Forces from 1941 to 1945 and is an eloquent manifestation of the deep respect and affection for Culver which is shared by alumni, patrons, and friends throughout the world.

Loyal, devoted members of the Culver Legion, Fathers Association, and Culver Summer Schools Alumni Association secured funds for building and furnishing the memorial. Ground was broken for the chapel in April 1950; the cornerstone was laid at impressive ceremonies on October 22 of the same year and the building was formally dedicated on October 21, 1951.

The Chapel is located on prominent ground in the midst of towering oaks and beautiful maples overlooking Lake Maxinkuckee. The sincerity of construction, the stately proportions of the nave and tower, modified by the restraint in detail and the enrichment of the vaulted ceiling and stained glass windows, combine to make the Chapel structurally outstanding. Conceived by one of America’s greatest architects, Jens Frederick Larson, it stands as an expression of his genius.
