Health Center
Health Center
Operational Hours
Nurses are available 24 hours a day seven days a week to see any student(s) who may require medical care. Students may access the health center at any time during the day or night. If a student needs to come to the health center during the day when classes are in session they must first go to student life before reporting to the health center.
To contact the Health Center at any time, please call:
Phone: (574) 842-7800
Fax: (574) 842-2072
Sick Call
The Academy Physician also is available to see students during sick call hours, which are:
Monday – Friday: (7:30 - 7:45 AM) & (3:45 - 4:15 PM)
Saturday and Sunday: 8:00 AM
Nurse Triage
When a student is seen at the health center by a nurse, symptomatic treatment may be administered with further direction given to the student to return to see a Physician during the sick call hours. If the nurse determines that a student is not well enough to return to classes or to campus a student may be detained or admitted to the health center until further orders are given by the physician.
Overnight Stays
The health center has the availability to admit or detain 27 students in our upstairs patient care area. This area has individual rooms with beds and bathrooms for students when they are ill or have other health concerns. There are rooms specified for cadets and rooms specified for coed use. In some instances it may necessary for a student to stay overnight at the health center until further orders are given by the physician. While at the health center for any length of time there is a kitchen for meals to be served as well as snacks for students.
Emergencies
In the event that a student may have a medical emergency all emergencies are taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth. If it is determined that the emergency is too severe to travel by a Culver Academies approved vehicle with the health center driver an ambulance will be called. In the event that transport and care need to be given by the local emergency room parents will be notified by phone of the emergent situation.
