The Culver Assistance Program (CAP) is under the direction of Darrell W. Knowlton M.S.W., L.C.S.W. The program focuses on positive behavioral choice alternatives. CAP does not focus on a particular negative choice but is designed to address a variety of indiscretions. Students can self-refer themselves if they recognize an area that they are struggling in. During self-referrals, a student’s request for assistance will be kept confidential, unless the professional is required to involve others to meet the needs of the student. Also, a student might be assigned to CAP as part of the restorative portion of an administrative decision for not adhering to The Academies Code of Conduct.

A student may receive a formal evaluation to identify strengths and risk. The foundation of CAP is professionally facilitated discussion groups but may include individual’s discussions to specifically address areas of concern. Topics are dynamic and fluid to address current needs; however, the focus is to teach positive coping methods that assist in reducing negative choices. Students are assigned projects and are encouraged to verbally participate but only at the level that they feel comfortable.

CAP staff collaborates with student life, athletic coaches, teachers, and other professionals to empower, support, and honor the student’s work towards positive choice type behavior. If you have any questions please contact the Health Center at (574)842-8346.
