College Advising

Finding a College That “Fits”

The college application process will be an important part of each student's Culver experience. We recognize that not all students are identical and that "one size" does not fit all.  The purpose of the College Advising Office is to teach Culver students about the college application process, and to advise and create opportunities for students to discover the best "fit" academically, socially, athletically and personally.

Below is a list of items you should be thinking about throughout your Culver career.

9TH AND 10TH GRADES AT CULVER

  • 9th and 10th graders take the PSAT in October of each year.
  • Students are encouraged to take the most challenging classes they can handle and earn the best grades possible each year since both grades and strength of schedule have the greatest influence in the college admissions process.
  • All students are encouraged to engage in Naviance Test Prep to prepare for the PSAT, SAT and ACT. For log-in credentials, please email Chrystal.Dyess@culver.org
  • Students and parents are encouraged to meet and speak with college advisors in their first year if they have questions.
  • Students are encouraged to visit local colleges and universities to understand what schools are looking for in the college admissions process. This is best done over a school break.
  • Freshmen and Sophomores are encouraged to meet with college and university representatives who visit the Culver campus. A list of all visiting admissions representatives can be found on the Naviance Family Connection page, available to all students.
  • Parents and students are strongly encouraged to attend College Advising Presentations, which are held during Parent’s Weekend. These sessions are extremely helpful in understanding the college admissions process.
  • Parents can make an appointment with a college advisor by contacting Chrystal Dyess at 574-842-7700
